New Hornady 6.5mm 140 gr BTHP Match?

Anyone have any feedback on using this bullet in your long range loads?

Hornady has a G1 of .580, does anyone know how this compares to what Bryan Litz has in his new book (I have the old one which doesn't list it)? Anyone have a G7 BC that you are using?

Powder / Velocity
So far I am running 42.4 grains of H4350, and getting around 2,785 fps out of a 24" 1:8 Krieger. Anyone pushing these any harder/faster out of a 24" barrel?

OAL / Setting
I am running mine pretty much at mag length at 2.815, which is why I went with it, I was trying and get something that did well sitting off the lands. Anyone seen a big difference in performance running it on or just off the lands, versus mag length?

So far this bullet is looking very promising, now it just comes down to trying to fine tune everything.

I don't have either of Litz's books but using a .550 G1 BC tracks within .1-.2 mils out to 800 for me. The load(s) I use are

140 HPBT
FED 210 primer
41.6 H4350 @ 2770 or 41.9 @ 2820 (different lot of powder..) out of a 25" barrel at 2.82 OAL

shot five shots of the 41.6 load into just under an inch at 250 yds the other day and just did five into about 5 inches at roughly 700 yards on my steel man (17"x10") and was nailing another steel target dead center with the 41.9 load at 800 yards (didn't get to measure or anything but they looked pretty tight) so they're treating me pretty well so far. I would recommend them.

Thanks for the feedback, sounds like you are also having very good results and my data seems to be on par with yours.

I had previously shot the Sierra 142s and the Lapua 139s. The 139s grouped the best out of everything that I have shot, but I am not a huge fan of the cost and availability. The 142s are good all around, but the BC seemed to be a little better on the Hornady and they were cheaper. Hornady is really taking some major steps to up their offerings.

I am hoping that Berger will come out with a 6.5 / 140 Hybrid, the feedback I have heard on their other Hybrids has been very positive.

It is hard to beat the VLDs and JLKs, but I am not a huge fan of having to run out the OAL to get them on the lands, and no longer being able to run them out of a mag.

A hybrid 140 would be interesting, I am too cheap to buy Bergers though, that's why I switched over to the 140 HPBT from Hornady!

the 139 Scenar also shot very well in my rifle, but I'm not a fan of the cost either..

Got out today to do some midrange load testing on these. This is the first opportunity to shoot any kind of groups... all I did before was do load/velocity characterization vs. my Scenar loads. They run slower than the Scenars if everything else is identical.

Winchester 7-08 brass formed to .260.
Fed 210 primers
44-44.6 gr. H4350
2.88" COAL./.005" jump
39 deg. F
26.1 inHG

44.6 gr. yielded tightest groups at 2.00" and 2.60" c-c for 5 shots @ 600 yds. with 1.30" and 1.91" of vertical respectively. That's an average of .38 MOA c-c and .27 MOA vertical. Not shabby.

Velocity is 2865 with an ES of 13 fps. from my 26" Brux.

We guessed at a G7 of .296 and it was either on or within .1 mil. Need to stretch it out to proof that G7. Using Ballistic FTE.

They don't seem to group *quite* as well as the Berger VLD's, but damn close, and at the cost difference and not having to chase lands... I'm sold.
