There's always this wonderful stuff. Please tell me you've tried it...

I'm having back surgery in Lexington May 22. Going down 2 days early. Might have to take a drive over to Buffalo Trace and grab some to numb the pain.

Damn that sucks. Hope it's going to be pretty straight-forward. Might want to grab a few in that case. It's smooth.

Smooth = sneaky! Right properly trashed in a jiffy.

Unfortunately not. 2 muscles torn off my left shoulder blade from auto accident.

That translates to cutting me open, scraping my left shoulder blade of scar tissue, drilling 10 holes through my shoulder blade, sewing muscles back on. Left arm in cast sticking out in front of my and legally cant drive for 6 weeks, then cant lift anything heavier than a coffee cup for 7-8 months, 12 month full recovery. I don't sleep from the pain. Best part, my insurance denied paying for surgery cause it's out if network and told me to go to an orthopedic surgeon in my area. Appealed 3x and was denied even though we told them the surgeons in my network told me to go to this guy in Kentucky.

Welcome to my world

So the boolits look pretty cool... but at 2:58, the talking head talks proudly about machining to "with 2 to 3 thousandths of an inch..."

Whoa, wait, what???

In bullet manufacture, .003" might as well be half an inch! Am I wrong or should they should be talking about 'tenths' there. 0.0002 -3" Not three thousandths! If you put an aluminum tip or a jacket or even a core that is that far out... isn't that going to have a big effect on external ballistics?

Am I missing something here? At the Schloss Nitrocellulose workshops, I can hold better than .003" on a broken-down mule of a worn-out 1940's South Bend lathe with worn ways and no DRO. On the Monarch, I can work to tenths. For a modern CNC production equipment like they should be using at Hornady, if things are out that much... isn't something wrong?

Don't get me wrong here... I love this concept. The turned aluminum tips, the longer profile, the new ogive, etc. That's some good stuff. And I love Hornady bullets. Their 168 Match BTHP's are about all I shoot in the Sako. So I want these to be great. And will definitely try them.

But when I hear that much tolerance in a match bullet, it makes me wonder if their film editing was off... or if I am missing something?

Cheers,

Sirhr

P.S. I listened to it again... and maybe what they are referring to is that they are drawing the jacket to .002 - 3... and then afterwards doing final swaging and finishing. So I may be taking that tolerance out of context. But I'd like to know for sure!
In machining, some machinists refer to ten thousandths (.0001) as "thousandths" rather than ten thousandths. Have a few buddies that work in tool and die. All of them use that term.

DAMN. Sorry to hear that, along with the whole insurance bullshit. A quick recovery we hope you have. On the bright side, you won't be in pain after recovery, and if you bought a suppressor right before the surgery you'd get it about the same time you're all healed up also!

@1J04 went sort of through that same mess kinda. He might have a few helpful tips for you!

That would be my 'other' guess... but if you are putting a video out that goes to this community... that's a big thing to miss in the editing booth.

Again, as my post-script said, they 'may' be referring to the jacket-swaging process. But it sounded like he was talking about the tip... Hard to say.

But I tend to think you are right. To some social media producer/video jockey, .003" sounded really impressive. And noone paid enough attention during management review.

Perhaps someone from Hornady lurks here and can clarify. Again, I am sure it's a great product. I love Hornady. Just seemed like a strange statement.

Cheers,

Sirhr
He said the “shape down to 2-3 thousandths”. I think he meant they went that deep when creating the shape. As in tweaking 2-3 thou in the shape of it.

Good luck with all that @padom . That's gonna get old, fast. I'm sure you already know, but dammit push yourself within reason. If you're hurting yourself while trying to get better, don't. Discomfort is one thing, causing deep pain is another. Best to you and keep the mind busy, and whine, even if you don't hurt. It helps us all in the long run. In Cartman's best whiny voice, "Honey, can you........" I milked the hell outta that one.

We are allowed guns mate. We just have to have licences and register everything. There are limitations on action types etc though. Also some states have idiotic appearance laws. Go figure

Ya the markup on Price-$ for you is robbery . everything we take for granted here in shooting related items is half price what you have to pay .
I got a couple good buddies down there that all shoot rifle and pistol . Was told it is quite the bullshit for jumping threw the hoops but after that it just short waits for things . Auto-feed Bolt rifle are a no-go and all Sub-compact frame and barrel pistols are No-Go also . but they shoot about everything else after all the classes, permits and waiting .

Thanks bud. That's a deal. It's my opposite shoulder, so maybe I'll be able to start shooting from the bench after a month or two....
