Hiya! New member to SH here from Bethesda/Rockville, MD. In my third year of grad school, and I've been in MI and MN but will be here for at least a few years more. Did some trap shooting back in college but haven't touched my shotgun since. The much slower/deliberate pace of precision shooting is a little easier on my wallet. (Not much else about it is, though! ;)) Longest range I've had access to previously was abt 600 yds, so I'm eager to get some more information. As my grandfather would say, if you're not careful you just might learn something.

😂🤣😂🤣

But really I’m close and shoot some competitions not too far from you. Let me know if you’re interested in regional PRS matches.

You can break clays at PG if you want to keep up with that

Welcome from the Communist Count of Montgomery in the Socialist State of Maryland. I'm actually in Rockville/Bethesda and there are a few others here from this general area on the board incl my very good friend @GBMaryland and @TheOE800.

As far as clays go...yep, Prince George County Trap and Skeet is public for skeet/trap/SC. Used to be a Beretta club and was actually built by Winchester when gun/ammo companies did such a thing.

Myself and @GBMaryland shoot out of a local Issac Walton League club in Damascus MD. We have skeet, a trap field (not used very much) and a 5 stand that is open most Sundays, weather permitting.

IWL has rifle and pistol but rifle only goes to 100 yards.

I also belong to Fairfax Rod and Gun in norther VA. They have ranges to 200 and a few lanes to 300.

To go beyond that there is Del Marva over by Cambridge...commercial pay to play range. Also, there is Peace Maker but its a bit expensive which wouldn't dissuade me as they go to 1k, but apparently that range is only open on Wed. I need to get up there this coming warm season to check it out and talk to them directly about range access.

You are in grad school and I'm 70 and retired so I may not be very interesting to you. But please feel free to PM me via this site if you would like to get out and shoot sometime or just want to reach out to someone local re: target shooting.

Cheers

Thanks for the hearty welcome. Frustrating state, indeed- they ought to read up on their Marx. ("Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary.") I might well take you up on that. I'll have to get a new optic zeroed sometime in the near future, certainly before I try to get out to MCBQ's range.
