PB here. I am new to this site so I can tell you a little about me...

Its almost 50 years of shooting now. Law enforcement and Army Veteran.... Sometimes I ve been able to shoot as good or better than my friends that shoot. I pleased to say I enjoy shooting and always have. I take the time to enjoy every aspect of it all. I cast my own bullets, size and lubricate them and load them for each type of shooting I hope to do. I also use traditional bullets for long range work too. Last year I purchased an M1D Garand. Ive been spending a lot of time with that, just trying to get it to shoot properly. Today I was out with the 375 H&H Mag with both Kieth cast types of 264 grain and the Remington 270 grain factory loads. Starting at 100' and moving out to 200' It was a great day to spend shooting while I sip my coffee at the table and relax. I set up on my range: so far 100, 200 and 300 yd ranges on my 70 acre farm. Next year I plan to add additional distance ranges 600 yards I hope.. to shoot my 7mm Mag with the Ziess 5x25 , Sako .270 6x18, and .270 WSM to list a few.

Merry Christmas

I purchased former cattle farm land in southwestern new York state closer to the Pennsylvania mtns. When I was 25 years from retirement, I developed my plan. Find and obtain a place with at least 50 acres, and a number of other requirements. My hideaway. It has a water fall, stocked pond I built and stocked, hundreds if not thousands of trees (larch, white pine, conifers...)I planted by hand to attract and support wildlife. The DEC game Warden called it "a Wildlife Mecca"

I try to shoot daily...keeping a record of the different rifles, loads, specific weather conditions . Nice.... Very enjoyable.

WOW! You are a smart man. Wish I would have had the foresight to do that. Sounds like a paradise!
I was there today with my Pointer (Kennedy) after a walk (she ran I walked) in the pasture I went up to try the 7mm Mag at the 200 yd range. I need to work on my breathing and the trigger. I was not happy with my shots but..... I was fun though.

It takes a lot to get to know all the aspects of your load, your ability, and all of the other elements that change. …..but its great fun. You cant have a bad time there. cu, pb

Glad you had a great time.

You should give yourself a break, it's NY! You are probably laying on 6' of snow with blowing sub zero temps!!!!
Well it was not that bad until today. Today it was pretty cold and freezing rain.

I haven't been shooting in the prone position. I erected a heavy table that I use together with sitting in a chair I use two different bi pods or depening on the rifle and other things, a heavey coat to rest the forend on.

Poor flying weather anyway...

I have several friends for NY, not city dwellers. Most farm/ country people. They tell me how nice it is in the summer. Sure would not want to leave there in the winter. Lived in cold climate first 19 years of my life. Now days were it is below 50 are cold. So I just wait a day and it's in the 60's again, most of the time.
Think I got up to low 70's today, not a cloud in the sky. Great day to go to the range except for some gusty winds. Almost any day at the range is a good day though...

I agree, not a good flying day in ice. I like ice in my drinks, not on the wings. My plane is not equipped for ice. It handles it well, but noting I want to do. Another reason to live in the South.....

Sounds like a beautiful place set up well!

ive been out with the M1D on the farm. It was cold with blowing snow here and there. The wind was picking up to 20+ at my back though.
I was shooting at 200. It must be the rifle or the load. Ha! I used a Nosler 150 gr, Custom Competition Bullet. After all these years I'm still learning. Great fun.

I am looking for some loading data for the Barret 50. I purchased some Reloader 50 powder and 667 gr bullets, cci primer (#35 Arsenel). Does anyone reload for this cartridge that can provide some insight.

thank you,

Welcome from northeast Ohio. Retired law enforcement also. Sounds like you’re enjoying life. Let me know if you need a new best friend ?!

Thank you. All Law Enforcement are brothers of mine.
I sent the M1D back to the CMP for a tune up, possibly a new barrel. Ive been working on getting all the components together to reload for the .50.
I don't want to look at my credit card bill!
