Hello, my nickname is smokey. New here, just been hanging out and reading and watching videos. I have a question I need answered. I have 300WM in 700 Remington action with 26" Krieger 5.5 contour barrel, HS stock, jewel trigger and a Leupold Vari X 6 6x24 scope with TMOA reticle. What would be the best sight in distance for this combo.? I saw on one of the ballistic calculators that they prefered 100 yard sight in. Would 200 Yard be better? Any thoughts on this and what do most guys go with.? I am limited to a 1000 yard local range. Also just ordered a new Savage model 10 with the GRS stock in 6.5 Creedmoor. Ordered a Zeiss Conquest 4x16 scope also. Thinking about swapping the leupold out for the Zeiss and moving the Leupold to the 6.5.

Smokey3, welcome!

If you're trying to set your scope for minimal elevation adjustments, set it to zero at the nearest distance that will allow holdover for the 1,000 yards and hold under at 100. If you intend to use a ballistics app or dope card for elevation adjustments set the zero for 100 yards and set the zero lock feature if the scope has it.

I was thinking 100 yard zero. I have a BR7 rangefinder and Strelok Pro ballistics app, along with the Hornady DOF. I was curious to what other people were using. Leupold VX6 4-24 on one rifle and a Zeiss V4 4-16 on my other long range rig. Thanks for the recommendation.
