The short of it- Im looking for a small quick detach riser that is steel and not aluminum.

The long of it- seeing Tubbs mount and black max's magneato mount I was wanting to do the same thing for my new rifle and Im hoping to track every shot down the barrel to get some real world data to share on how they speed up. I will be using it on an xray with a spigot mount and a pic rail screwed on to the right hand side. I would like to be able to remove the contraption when Im done foir packability so I would prefer it quick detach. That means that the rail will be below the bore which isnt a problem as I will end up welding the rods on and can make up the difference in level when I assemble it.

Black max used a walmart scope mount and cut the rings off the top so they werent hanging out the side.

Im wanting to find something that doesnt have rings to cut off. Ive found some little small rail sections that would work aside from the fact that they are aluminum. According to midway and brownells small rail extensions and risers only come in aluminum. So does anyone have a source on a small steel riser/rail with easy detachment knobs? I would prefer if its extended like in this picture (but without rings) just because I suck at welding and might need some mess up areas just in case.

Oh, and cheap. I found a couple suitable candidates but Im not down for spending 300 bucks on a sako riser.

Tubbs- Much more refined but I dont have the abilities to machine my own thing like that. It would be the ideal set up though as it appears to be adjustable. Capture.JPG

Anyone know of commercial offerings for this extension rod? If not, looks like I have another project to do. Although, from the looks of it, I dont think it would work with a suppressor because of the width of the can.

Seriously this would solve pretty much all the negativity against Magnetospeed.

Both of those look plenty long, especially considering the spigot and tubbs is sturdy enough. I just can't find a short steel qd rail.

Although I will be needing to get it out in front of the can... shoot. Didn't think about that. If I can't find something reasonable to weld on I might just fireform 100 rounds and deal with it. I could mount a mars rail on the side.

I'd like to see the tubbs in use. It looks sturdy, but I'd like to see what it does when recoil is affecting it, especially from a 338 or 375. You could save yourself the headache of trying this and trying that and just get the LR. But it has its own shortcomings that many have found.

Another good point. I resurrected Bison Tactical's trade in thread. Maybe Ill just break down and spend the change to upgrade.

I do think that if some one could craft something that attaches to a picatinny rail there could be a decent market for it.
