I think this is something to be taken seriously, but it’s hard to deny that the media is hyping the hell out of it. They are also already starting to distance themselves from the information they put forth. That tells me a lot.

I think it's getting closer to "Mount-up" time. Cuomo is already telling upstate N.Y.'s private hospitals, "give me your ventilators". He and the mayor, have been using this term, for damn near two weeks now. Yes, he has to pay market value for them, but, it all starts with compensation, then it ends up being, "give me your shit, serf!" IMHO, I think communism has finally made it to our shores folks. Watch TV lately? looks like a Chicom documentary, people wearing masks, streets mostly empty, nobody laughing, or smiling, totally grey looking. Reminds me of my trip to East Berlin in the 80's.

I hear you. What frustrates and concerns me is when "mount-up" time rolls around sites like this will be shut down. I fear it will not be possible to ring that bell.
Hopefully (but not likely) it’s just a buzz word/phrase, very similar to how “normalcy” or “return to normalcy “ was overused after 911.
We lost much freedom with the magical creation of the NSA and DHS. Judging from the $$$$ “Stimulus” that most political types were eager to pass, it’s very likely much more freedom will disappear under the guise of virus protection.

We are all stuck in the midst of this thing -- whether on the front lines of fighting it or just in our houses waiting for it to pass. More and more people are getting sick, and that means more and more people are being directly touched by the devastation of this disease.

Do you honestly think Trump would play along with changing to the "New Normal" if it was authoritarianism and total control of the populous? The stock market is in shambles. He has lost millions. The country is tubing. I really dont think he wants this and he would know if it was some democrat plan to destroy him. Nope. I think China did this on purpose. Killed enough of their own to be able to play victim with the rest of the world. China plays for the long game. 3,10 generations. If this is what starts the destabilization for the next generation to finish then they did good a job.

USA 1776-2020 we are at 244 getting close to a significant change just around the corner. Who's to say they change can't be for the better? Realistically I think things are going to be for the worse. I'm a magazine half empty guy.

IMO, This whole situation will act more as an "awakening". The people like us already knew the dangers of authoritarianism but those who typically vote democrat that dont necessarily subscribe to leftism will see the importance of true freedom and especially the 2A. We have already seen that part with 80% of gun purchases in the past 2 months being 1st time gun owners and a lot of them being former gun control supporters. People are going to get sick and tired of not being able to move freely and do as they please. They might start to see the writing on the wall and vote and behave differently for the better. This is giving people a taste of what the true left wants for the future when there isnt a big bad boogie man virus out there.
What I'm more pissed about now is the "official" death toll. People shooting themselves in the head or jumping off buildings, or murder victims, car crash victims that happen to test positive for covid19 are being deemed killed BY covid19. That cooks the books and makes the numbers look really lopsided. I'm not saying that covid19 isnt dangerous or deadly, but this system is making it seem way more deadly than it is.

Hmmmm. Will there be different color masks for the different classes of people? Wouldn't that be cool? Any one caught wearing the wrong color when stopped and asked for their papers could be jailed or put on a public works team or even given an education class as to the importance of "Why we are in this all together".
Now that the left realizes they can shut down the economy as a political tool against their enemies, I can see it being used again when it's politically advantageous for them to use their fascist tactics again. The virus may be real, but we've seen others kill many more. The overreaction to it is wherein lies the latest 'hoax'. Notice that of all the states left which haven't been shut down by their governors, they all have republican governors. MSM is nearly giddy when they report the bad news, eg unemployment, and still insist on asking their gotcha questions. We should all be immensely grateful we have someone who sees it for what it is, and stands up to it. God help us when he goes.
Much of this "emergency power" that the right now fears was practically begged for by the more authoritarian faction of the Republican party post-9/11. I was in a strongly libertarian phase of my political development then, and was broadly ridiculed by people who I thought would be fellow allies in the fight against repressive government power.
To a significant extent, we on the right got suckered by the so-called neocons (which, if members serves me right, were largely a bunch of ex-commies and CFR types who can fall in with certain liberals like Clinton and Lieberman just as easily as they infiltrated the Cheney/Rumsfeld wing of the Republican party). And now we're gonna pay the price.
Just remember when you listen to bozos like Hannity bemoaning the jack-booted thugs locking down the country - this is what Republicans wanted the last time we got scared by a boogieman.
Right now, your should practice and encourage behaviour that ensures:
A) You are alive at the next election and
B) The Left has lost more voters than the Right.
How this virus crisis may affect future rights can be discussed during Trump's second term.
If the Left wins, there will be no discussion and your rights will be gone until you man up and re-assert them at gun point.
So, ideally Covid-19 makes a revolution against totalitarianism unnecessary. Worst case scenario, the Covid-19 lock down was an opportunity to get your act together for what needs to happen if the Left wins Senate and WH.
