Looking for a new phone. Android only. Have to carry an iphone for work and absolutely hate it.

Have had great results from Motorola, just wondering what is out there that I haven't considered. Would prefer not to spend a ton, as I need my cash for guns, ammo, and food plot prep.

Thanks in advance.

My pixel works well, I just hate that the battery life now sucks after a few years and it's not user replaceable.

I had good luck with motorolla too, but decided to try a pixel on a suggestion from a friend
the pixel is a good phone, I got both myself and my wife one, never had any issues with them

You can find a refurb 4 or 4a for not much with a warranty, little more for a 5

I would not go older than that as the older ones either already lost updates or will really soon

Last handful of phones were all motos. They made sone changes I was not a fan of so I wanted to try something else.
Made switch to samsung and fucking hate it, going back to moto

Um. I’d rather not have a phone than carry an android.

Sounds like a Kyocera DuraXV might fit your needs.

For years, friends told me if I ever tried an iphone, I would like it. Took a job where I have to carry a work phone, and it is required to be a company issued iphone. I absolutely hate that fucker. If you ever quit drinking the apple kool-aid, you might realize there are better phones out there. Only reason I am replacing mine is that it's almost 5 years old. And android users don't have to worry about their phone maker fucking them over with "updates" that make your battery life non-existent so that you will upgrade.

Regarding the "phone" you recommended - I still want a smart phone, not a brick. Just nothing made by apple.

I just bought a Blackview 9800 Pro. Big, heavy (IP68 - 69 rated), great battery life, tons of storage, good processor and a FLIR Lepton sensor. Got it for just under $400
I had a Blackview 9700 Pro, but broke the screen. Loved the phone, but after "they" killed 3g, Blackview couldn't guarantee their phones would work here except for the 9800. Those were out of stock at the time I needed a phone so I went with Samsung X cover Pro. I guess it's OK but I sure wanted another Blackview.

I just picked up this beast:

No Android or IOS, no GPS, no Wifi, no Apps. Just phone and text. 180 bucks for the phone and 1 YEAR of service.

I recently got a Motorola Edge 5G, the reviews call it the middle child but I have no complaints.
Apple is a cult.

I don’t get the apple/android love/hate stuff...it’s a phone.

Will it text?
Will it make calls?
Can I read and send emails?
Can I watch YouTube stupidity?
Will it play porn?

If it can check those boxes it’s good enough.

The two Android phones I've had over the last decade were a Samsung Rugby Smart and a Kyocera Dura[something or other]. When that one eventually started glitching I moved over to the dark side and now have an Apple product. Yes, Apple tracks & stores a lot of your data, but they don't like sharing it with anyone short of a warrant.
On all of the above my phones have had run a VPN, Tor, and my Signal encrypted messaging app.
Check you settings and bloatware to make sure that only necessary settings and apps for your means are activated.
Don't download any app with a Chinese creator. They are required to put tracking programs in their apps to collect data for their govs social credit program. Incidentally they're collects tons of data from people all over the world since everyone uses Chinese produced apps. Don't be a parts of this if you don't have to.

Good luck and cheers!

I am in the same boat, my Motorola Z4 is in bad shape (mostly my fault). Battery life and durability are #1 for me. I gave up on Apple after years of having their damn updates kill the operating system. I may be wrong but it seems like Apple updates their software to the point if your not getting new hardware every few years it starts going to shit. I like the size and operating system of the Pixel 4 but they were known for shit battery life. I am not sure what to get, I do not want a phone so large that I need a Sherpa to tote around for me…

Have had Samsung for a while. Haven't had iFlop since 3g.

When this Galaxy carves, I'll probably go to a Dark Matter Katim, or get Silent Circle firmware for another galaxy. Unless I can find a Blackphone 2

Samsung Galaxy xCover Pro has all of that, including removable battery, and even rugged/waterproof out of the box. It's usable on Verizon.
Rugged or not need a Otterbox defender or it will wind up like my old Blackview. Busted screen from dropping on concrete from about 8 ft. A drawback to the Blackview is getting rugged cases and screen protectors to fit. Samsung x cover is easy to fit with protection. Samsung x cover by itself does not APPEAR to be nearly as "rugged" as the Blackview which I managed to break anyway.

I'd go pixel 6 for the pure android experience- Samsung etc al's Android wrappers drive me crazy. Grab it straight from the google store and skip all the carrier BS as well.

Ive had iPhones for years. Had androids before that and had a pile of issues. I am sure those are fixed by now…

I am tired of giving my money to these giants who don’t give a fuck about what i want/need in a phone. Bloatware is a massive pet peeve of mine. 1200-1500 for a phone is also insane. I understand the tech in them, but no way they cast anywhere near that to produce and make money on them.

I need a phone that is bulletproof. I am very rough on electronics. I also HATE when a device doesn’t work as it is supposed to.

I see most of the android vs apple is just like ford vs chevy. I just want a toyota damn it! I am lost when it comes to off brand phones. Looked at some recommendations on here, but not sure how good they really are

My Moto has a humongous battery, two days, no charger, still at 65%.

Like, $200... Practically disposable
Have a Moto G Power as well. Battery lasts days., works fine for what I need if for.
Verizon prepaid ends up being $25/month.
Prefer to spend money on steaks, ammo, and tax stamps.

While I wouldn't buy an AAPL, I do own the stock.

Once you get over that Android love shit, you will realize iPhone is far superior

This thread has AIDS. Apple Inragement/Derrangement Syndrome...

I have a 'droid for when I travel outside the US. Most immigration halls have PAYG or prepaid SIM vending machines so you can get a bunch of data for a reasonable price. I think the one I have now is my third in 20+yrs and cost around $200 from Curry's (in the UK) around 2018, just use it as a wifi hotspot for our real 'phones to get nav., txt/email and wifi calling anywhere on the planet.

I had a Pixel 3XL, outstanding until it became too old.
Recently bought a Pixel 6, excellent battery life, important to follow the set-up tips on utube to make it stop doing stupid stuff out of the box.
The only issue still remaining is the fingerprint scanner is crap, but I know they will keep releasing updates that might fix it someday. Otherwise, great!

Does it take more than 9 years? Because I have been carrying both for 9 years, and I still hate everything about the iphone. The day I retire, I will hand over that monumental piece of shit and never touch one again. I have been issued a 5, 5s, 7, 9, 10, and two versions of the 11. Hated every fucking one of them.

I haven't seen anything about it that could rationally be described as better, and most things aren't as good. I shouldn't have to use itunes to move pictures from my phone to a PC with a cable is a single example.

Got the S22 Ultra the day it came out. Best phone I have used by far... and it better be since it's Samsungs Flagship phone!

So, you never figured out airdrop?

So, you never figured out airdrop?
Was going to say same thing.

I can take a pic outside or on the other side of the house, and have it on my laptop before I even sit down again. Don't even know where any of my "cables" are.

Same here, got the pro version for the camera. So far so good

Again, wasn't interested in any more apple crap. The cable I charge with will let me move pics from my android to my PC without subscribing to any other BS, with the benefit of charging the phone while doing it.

I don't use GPS on the phone, no apps with tracking permissions, turn off everything that I can, and try to avoid any apps on my phone or PC that track activity. No games, and very little else.

You need a flip phone. And a Polaroid camera.

Airdrop isn’t a subscription. It’s a Bluetooth enabled feature that lets you share pics from one device to another, no wires needed.

Androids are for people that prefer to be befuddled by the easy button.

More animosity here than in the glock vs 1911 thread. Not sure why anyone who isn't me gives a fuck that I don't like iphones. Or glocks either, for that matter. I never said anything bad about your wife, mother, sister, or dog. Just said I don't want an iphone because I (me, personally) hate them, and there is not one fucking thing anyone can say to change my opinion after 9 (yes, nine) full years of dealing with apple devices. If you like them, good for you!

Regarding airdrop - AirDrop is a proprietary ad hoc service in Apple Inc.'s iOS and macOS operating systems, introduced in Mac OS X Lion and iOS 7, which can transfer files among supported Macintosh computers and iOS devices by means of close-range wireless communication. (credit wikipedia) Also known as "more apple bullshit that only works with their system"

Hard to text polaroids, even more of a pain to e-mail them, and I didn't ask for any opinions from apple fanfags about what I "need", just for recommendations about android phones from actual android users. I have been perfectly satisfied with the functionality of my Motorola G7 Play, it's just getting a little slower after 5 years, but the battery still lasts 2 days with me on calls 5-6 hours every day.

Many thanks to those who made actual recommendations on android devices.

Another one of the guys that was given a IPhone 5 from work and had my own GalaxyS5 android.
Same experience, the IPhone sucked ass and the Android did everything I asked of it....and correctly (unlike crApple).

Apple guys, try this.
Customize your home screen (not talking wallpaper ya doofs, I mean fully customize it).
Yea, with crApple you have to like it their way because you can't change shit.
Of course you can only install crApple approved apps of which not so many are free....android allows you to install most anything, use it the way you want, and you don't have to only get the app from 1-fucking-place.
crApple, for those that like their hand held while they pee.

Obviously 1911 and iphone are the master race.

Why would you brag about your poor choices?
Fiberglass insulation poisoning...
Mean high schoolers in suburbia...
Lack of marketable skills, no forethought to future economic conditions, and the sweet sweet allure of employee discounts on cheap gun store merch...

Could be something else, but the above three have been popular lately...

NOTE--- Motorola is now a Chinese owned company.

Stay away from kyocera as I had nothing but problems. The screen starting to delaminate along the edge and the glass shattered on the camera.
