I am on a pretty tight budget for a new rifle that will be used to bang steel plates and I am looking for options to the $600 - 800 price tag for a stock. I saw some Choate stocks on Brownells that were around $200. I am ready to order one but if the experiences with this brand are negative I will save up some more moola and move to the next price point or higher. My experiences to date have been with Savage laminate stocks in my F class rifles so I have no real experience with aftermarket options.

Thanks

Choate: general answer = NO. Look at HS Precision, Manners, stocky stocks etc. A good quality stock is well within your budget. Also search the site and you'll find the same questions posed several dozen times.

If you are looking for a good stock on a budget, look at the B&C Tactical series. For ~$220 you get a solid stock with some nice features (especially the "grip to tip" bedding block). IMHO these are vastly preferable to the Choate offerings. I just put one of the B&C stocks on my 300 Blackout /Howa build and am very happy with it and don't plan on taking it off any time soon.

Get them here

edit: Here's a pic of mine before I had the metal Cerakoted...

Bell and Carlson, that was one that I forgot to check out. Thanks for the suggestions and keep them coming.
BTW, I did see that Choate has a pretty nice looking stock with adjustments for ~ $550 listed on their web site.

xlr evolution hasnt been mentioned yet. It's at the high end of your range, but is already set up for use with ai mags.
If youre going to spend 550 on an adjustable choate, spend a little more and get a better stock (mcmillan, manners, xlr, etc).
