Hey guys!

I decided to pick up a Remington 700 308 with 16.5" barrel (AAC model thats threaded). My goal is to keep this rifle at around 10 pounds give or take a 1/2 lb. My current precision rifle is a GAP 6.5 Creedmoor with #7 22" barrel, AI stock and S&B 5-25 PM II with MSR. I love this rifle but it also is a pig at 18 pounds. So I want a light weight 1 MOA or better rifle, typical distance will be 600 yards or less, would be nice to reach out further (1000 yards or so) the few times a year I get to shoot further but not primary usage. Hunt pigs with it and a little STF urban rifle. The factory configuration of this Rem 700 is 7.5lbs .

Rifle will be primarily shot suppressed with a 30P-1 (total weight doesn't need to include can).

So two things I have to do to it is replace the stock and add a scope rail and scope to the rifle.

My thoughts so far on the stock are the following: AI 2.0, Eberlestock folder, or Manners folder. I know I want to go with a folder, any one of the 3 are in my budget since I don't really have one just want what I want. Key is compact, light weight and low drag. I want to be able to put it in an Eberlestock pack or Northface backpack and have it just disappear.

For a scope I am looking at either the Nightforce 2.5-10x42 with Mil-R (nice and light weight and good reticle) or a Vortex Razor HD Gen II 4.5-27 . Draw back to the Vortex is weight, might push me over the 10lb range. Since I want to pig hunt with it and have a nice little compact urban STF rifle the 2.5-10 might be plenty. I like the S&B 3-12 with P4F however the Nightforce is lighter, cheaper and like the Mil-R reticle even better.

So with those details what do you guys think would be the ultimate set up for a compact folder at or around 10lbs? I may end up having GAP true the action and rebarrel it at some point but for what I want to do with it I suspect it won't be necessary. I am looking for sub 1" groups but don't really need it to be a sub .5" gun, if it can be done I am all over it but not primary focus right now.

I look forward to your thoughts and ideas!!!

Manners folder in the elite tactical would be my bet. The AICS is just too heavy. You could also consider the XLR carbon with folding butt

I will have to check out the XLR carbon...the Manners is actually a little heavier than the AICS not by much but a little. I haven't taken the original stock off to see how much it weights but since it is such a piece of junk I am betting only a pound so that gives me around 3.5 lbs to 10lbs so a stock eats that up and I haven't put a scope on it.

Go with the manners stock, I believe it's called carbon fill that takes weight out of the stock. I would go ahead and opt for the vortex just to have the added magnification. You are going to have a tough time keeping it under 10....11.5 would be more realistic.

So does Manners make a carbon fiber folder that isn't on their website? That would be sweet if the stock made up the weight difference. You guys are right 10lbs might be a bit tough and 11-11.5 might be more realistic. Compared to my 18+ lb GAP that is still a big win.

Keep the ideas coming!!!

Manners makes a carbon fiber folder. I would not get it with the mini chassis though. I would opt for a badger bottom metal. It is something like 8oz heavier with the mini chassis. Same with the adjustable cheek its something like 6oz. Extra. Aluminum base and rings will save a couple ounces as well. All that and that's a pound off right there. You just have to determine what features are worth a weight penalty to you.
