looking to see if anyone has compared the 2. I have the leicas but always wanted a pair of swarovskis and what to hear some facts about them b4 i make the switch.
wondering if they range as fast and weight differences and whatever else

Re: New swarovski rangefinder binos vs leica geovid

I have compared the two - to a degree. They (swaro rangers EL) were shipped into my house for my nephew while he was at training. I run the Geovids, 8x42 and have had good luck with them, not as clear as the Swaro EL's I sold to get them, but OK. Ranging capabilities have been pretty good. When the new Swaro Rangers EL got here, there was a wow factor. Lighter, easier to hold and manipulate, much more superior glass (although my Geovids are not the HD's) than mine. The Swaro's operate nicely, and seem to range as well, probably better, than the Geovids, and as fast or better. I did not have them long enough to really evaluate ranging ability, but I sure did like them.

i switched and im glad i did.

speed and simply easier (don't need to be as steady) to get an accurate distance......

Re: New swarovski rangefinder binos vs leica geovid

My buddy and I just upgraded to the EL rangefinder 10x42's. They are absolutely wonderful. Glass is crystal clear. I have a pair of SLC 10x50's and these are much better glass. My really have been pleased with the SLC's but this is just a new level of glass for me. The rangefinders work very well also. I have had the Swarovski 8x30 rangefinder and the el's seem to work quicker than the 8x30's. My longest range is 800yds on whitetail so far. I have to say that the EL's are great. Thanks to the guys at Euro Optics for their great service as well. Alex always takes care of his customers. I have made other purchases from Euro in the past and always great service.

Re: New swarovski rangefinder binos vs leica geovid

probably the best (biased) comparison that i managed to find so far is something like a 'how to sell' sheet from eurooptic:
euro-optic selling guide

short: the swaro has about 10% more transmission than the geovid (but it's not stated whether it's the normal or HD which they pick for comparison) and the transmission is significantly more even compared to the zeiss (with 85% to 75% depending on side)

+ angle indicator ... that's about it.

like the geovid, the button is on the left-hand side, which some bow hunters might argue about. but then, the swaro only starts to range at about 30m _and not below_.

you can also find tons of details in a thread on the el range in the optics section: http://snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2772991#Post2772991

Re: New swarovski rangefinder binos vs leica geovid

I like my geovids EXCEPT the left handed button cause it just doesn't work bow hunting.

Dont leave out the Zeiss bino/rangefinder Very very good and im thinking about replacing my Leica s with one. Waiting until i see the new stuff at SHOT first.

Re: New swarovski rangefinder binos vs leica geovid

fellas, I have the EL range , and when I first started ranging I too thought it was silly for the button to be on the left...unitl I discovered something cool. try this:

1. take your hands and hold the binos normally.
2. take your RIGHT index finger and place it on the focus wheel
3. NOW, take your RIGHT middle finger and lay it over the top of the pivot and right onto the range button.the pad of your middle finger should be right on the button. It depresses perfectly, and is made just right for that.

If you need to use your left finger you can see how it must be bent pretty good to get on the button and is nowhere near as stable of a hold while depressing the range button and keeping the retical on the target.

the right hand over the top is the key.

many of my friends have tried this technique and it made all the difference. works one handed also.

try it!

Re: New swarovski rangefinder binos vs leica geovid

the leicas iv had read out to 1400 but conditions have to be perfect. If there is alot of snow and the sun is out they are worthless. Do the swarvoski's have this problem? also fog is bad but im thinking thats for every lazer fange finder

Re: New swarovski rangefinder binos vs leica geovid

if thats all they do, why every time i see i thread with "leica VS swaro" no one is pointing out the Bushnell Fusion Binocular for 700$ that will range to 1800+ on a grass hill, something not reflective at all..???

what is the reasoning behind spending 2500+ on a rangefinder that is not as good as a 1 that is 3.5 X cheaper?

i mean if i spent that much on it, it better do 3k or i would be pissed..

speaking as a former leica owner...

Re: New swarovski rangefinder binos vs leica geovid

thats kinda like asking why do you spend 2k on a high end scope when you could buy a swift and save yourself a pile of money. I personally will pay 3.5x more to see what im trying to range. Also if i could get rangefinder that would read out to 1k every day rain or snow id be more then pleased.

i take it you have never looked threw or used a set of Fusions?...

like i said, i my sold my POS Leics for these and never looked back..

i believe they were the rangefinder used for the mammoth sniper challenge.. i dont think you will find 1 person that will say they sucked..
