Somehow I ended up with an extra scope and needed a rifle for it so it wouldn't feel so alone.
I just picked it up yesterday and spent most of the evening looking it over.I originally wanted a 20" barrel, but after readin several posts about the Tikka barrels being slow, I went with the 24", figuring it needed all the help it could get. All in all, it appears to be a very well built rifle. The area of improvement that I see is the stock. For a close to $1000 rifle, Tikka could have done a little better than an injection molded plastic stock. In all fairness,it is pretty stiff and the action fits very snug in the stock, which is a good thing because there does not look like there is much area for bedding. (If anyone has bedded theirs, a photo would be appreciated.) The steel recoil lug is a very snug fit in the stock and Tikka did a good job of floating the barrel.
I was looking for a rifle that with a good trigger that would shoot well out of the box to use in our club's factory rifle class. While I'm a Remington fan, they need at a minumum a trigger to replace their horrendous X-Mark Pro and a stock to replace the pathetic over molded Hogue stock. If it works out I may Ceracoat the stock for asthetics, maybe Coyote Brown.
The high point of the rifle is the trigger. Holy shit, I adjusted it down to 1.1lbs. That's just about unheard of for a mid range priced rifle.
Aside from the stock the only other downside is the price of the magazines, but a little shopping around online beat Beretta's prices. I did order the add-on forestock so it would ride a little better on bags and just for overall aesthetics. Now I just need to get some rounds loaded up for break in and to get some fire-formed brass to measure headspace and I'm good to go.
At the end of the day I think I'm gong to be pretty happy with it
