Hi everyone. fairly new to the sport. I have several rifles but waiting for my first 338LM long range rifle from Desert Tactical Arms. A Stealth Recon Scout (SRS)
I need a scope and I'm wondering what power is best. I want to shoot as far as the rifle will allow. Any suggestions.

Re: New to forum. Need help with optic question.

Since your rifle is in 338LM I would go for a NightForce 8-32X56 NXS or the 12-42X56 NXS or an eqivilent optic from USO, Schmidt & Bender, Henstoldt etc.

Re: New to forum. Need help with optic question.

You don't need that high of magnification for 338LM. A 22x US Optic or a 25x Schmidt & Bender will compliment that system nicely. There's a reason DTA works with S&B and creates their mounts to work specifically with the 5-25x S&B optic. Those higher magnification optics are more for bench rest type stuff but you won't find too many people using them at tactical competitions and what not which is what your rifle was designed for (the real thing actually but this is as close as civilians come). You've got a great system at a healthy price so do yourself a favor and take the time to read this forum thoroughly and search for information. Read through all the SRS threads and absorb as much info as you can. This will be some of the most important information you can learn from before your rifle even arrives.

Re: New to forum. Need help with optic question.

I'd highly recommend the S&B 5-25x56. Excellent scope with everything you will need for your rifle. Great glass, perfect tracking, excellent knobs with plenty of elevation travel to get your rifle out as far as you need. Get it with the P4F reticle.

Just to touch on something mentioned, you don't need a ton of magnification to shoot at longer ranges. The 5-25x is more than enough. I have shot to 2000 yards on an MOA sized target and only used about 17-20x.

And I just happen to have one of these for sale in the for sale section here.

Re: New to forum. Need help with optic question.

Hi guys,
WOW!! This is my first time posting and I cant believe all the info Im receiving. You guys are awsome and this site rocks. Knowing there are people out there with all this love for the sport makes me glad I got into it. I will definitely follow all of your suggestions. It is realy difficult to make decisions when spending big bucks. I thought the more power the better but it doesnt appear that way. I have a 2.5 x 10 32 on my SL8 to G36 conversion and a 5.5 x 22 -56 NightForce on my POF 308 rifle now and im realy happy with them. I dont necessarily have to have a nightforce. You know when you have a name brand you tend to want to keep getting it for some reason, Like Yamaha or Honda, stuff like that. Im not sure how I want to go with it. I want to shoot as far as possible but I dont just want to just only use on the bench either. Im not wealthy and work very hard for my money, and will save and spend it on the best scope I can get.
I'll take a pole. If you could only choose one.
1. NF 8x32 56
2. NF 12x42 56
3. S&B 5-25x 56
4. PREMIER 5 x 25 ?
5. USO 3.2 - 22 x 58
Thank you for all your replies. I live in california and hope to meet some of you guys one day.

S&B 5-25x56 P4L or P4L Fine reticle. There was a video somewhere on here of a couple members shooting 2000+ with a DTA Stealth Recon 338LM and this exact scope. Seemed to work out for them.
