i have a remington 700 5r .308 the stick loves m118lr but due to the cost of this stuff i am getting in to reloading i have my press and everything else needed except for the dies i have already settled on a redding competition seating die

but the problem i am haveing is with brass re sizeing

i have already decided to neck size only as i only reload for 1 rifle

so my question is how offten if ever will i need to full lenth resize to get the shouldet to spec and is thear a die to do both or do i need a neck and a full lenth die to do both

i just whant to start off safe and do it right out of the gate

i apreciate any help the hide has to offer in all its wisdom

Re: new to reloading need help

You should be safe with a full length resize after the third or fourth reloading. This will depend on the size of your chamber and how hard you run your reloads. Let your rifle tell you when you need a full length sizing. When you get home from a range trip, take a fired cartridge and chamber it. When you feel more resistance than you should, you'll know it's time.

One inportant tool that you need to get wheather neck sizing or Full length resizing is a Hornady Lock n Load headspace body and calliber specific insert. You attatch it to your callipers, zero it, then take a reading on your fired case. This measurement will allow you to properly set up your die for propper shoulder bump and keep you from overworking your brass.

Good luck

Re: new to reloading need help

Buy a Lyman's Centerfire Handloading Manual and read all the non caliber specific chapters. Then read the safety and setup chapters again.

This is stuff you NEED to know before you start rolling your own loads.
