I was in the military for 8 years and I am looking for a long range rifle for hunting. I was told to look on this site for information, but I figured I would just ask. How much does a good 800 to 1000 yard rifle of the 308 cal. cost? What would be the best scope for it? I wanted to post in the Want To Buy tab but see I cannot yet. Please send me any feedback you can give me. I will take it all to heart.

First thing to establish is what kinda budget you're working with because we can make suggestions for everything but if it's out of your budget, it would be a lot of wasted time.

What's your budget? What's your intended use? Are you wanting a bolt or semi-auto?

Oh, and welcome to the Hide! There's a metric ton of information held within this database and pretty much any question you might have has already been answered at least once but if you can find the answer, don't hesitate to ask because there's always someone eager to help.

Snyper762 made a very good suggestion. If you don't have a budget, take a look at what G.A. Precision has to offer as you can get the GAP-10 in a variety of different calibers. It will serve you well for punching paper/precision shooting and if you don't mind the weight, it will also serve you well as a hunting rig.

The G.A. Precision guys are highly respected as world class rifle smiths who support the shooting sports however and whenever they can.
