Newb here with a question..I'm fairly new to long range shooting. My friend has a 800 yard range that he invites me to a couple times a year so I just built myself a Savage 308 heavy barrel with a McMillan stock and finally topped it off with a Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40 M1 Illumintaed scope. I bought the optic used and am looking for some assistance as to how I zero it/ set the turrets. All my other rifles have basic scopes so all I have to do is take the cap off and adjust it accordingly but I am a bit confused since now I have the adjustable turrets. It looks like there are small hex screws holding the turrets on. Do I remove them, then bore sight the rifle, then zero, and finally put the turrets back on? I'm sorry if this question doesn't make much sense but as I said, I'm new to this and hopefully someone understands what I'm asking and can offer some advice. I also downloaded the manual of Leupolds website and it doesn't really help much. Thanks very much.

Look for the cap screws in the side of the turrets. Just loosen it up and turn the knob to zero and snug down.

bore sight the rifle, get your 100 yd zero, then loosen those small hex screws and set your turrets to zero. now you're good to go.

After you loosen the hex screws they'll turn freely to your zero point. Do not try to pull them off. Before zeroing you might want to adjust elevation and windage knobs to center point by going to both extremes and determine total MOA range on each (such as 80 MOA total travel) then set the knob centered at 40 MOA when you start bore sighting. That way reticle will be centered when you start bore sighting.
