I bought a bunch of new Lapua 308 brass.
What size primers are these?

Large Rifle or Small Rifle?

And - there are varieties of primers, is there a primer specifically for this brass, or, are the primers specified in the reloading manual for a load recipe?

New to reloading -

Re: newb question - what size primers

Generally you use what is noted in the reloading manual. Hopefully you have a couple. Large Rifle is the correct answer unless you have some of the newfangled palma 308 cases (which I doubt). I would do a lot more reading before attempting to load rounds.

+1 with that suggestion. You need to do a LOT more reloading if you don't even know what primers to use on your brass. We understand being new to reloading, but we're telling you this for your own safety. Get someone who is experienced in reloading to help you, or start reading a LOT more.

Re: newb question - what size primers

That is exactly what I am doing, I've ordered a bunch of books: Sierra, Zediker's, and all the manufacturers web sites. A

I don't want no mushroom clouds here.

Thanks

Tomcat.
It's not as hard as it sounds. However, read, read, and then read some more. After that, if you can find someone locally to watch you run through your first set up then you should be good to go. Remember, until you are a bit more seasoned (and I am not saying I am either), I would follow the manual to the teeth. If it calls for large primer, use that, or whatever OAL it calls for. There is a bit of cushion within the 308 as long as you follow the direction.

Yep, much easier to get started if you get an experienced reloader to help you out and take you thru the steps, etc. Thats they way I got started and it made the learning curve much easier.

Depends on whether, or not, you got the new 308 Lapua 'match/benchrest' brass with small primer pockets.
