I would like to build a 300-221/300 whisper. I have a
Rem. rt. handed action but the boltface is .473, and a bunch of 223 W-W brass. Other than that, I'm at ground zero. I'll be using a 1-8'twist bbl. with a can but I would like any info anyone can provide for everything else I need to get this project off the ground. What dies do I need, reamer dimentions, loading data, etc. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer up.

Re: Newbie needs answers

Talk to your smith, he may already have the reamer. If not then you'll want to buy one. Get a PTG bolt with the correct bolt face, recoil lug, and trigger. Choose which stock you want to use and what magazine system you want. You'll need sights, if you want to use a rifle scope get a scope base, rings and of course a scope.

To reload you'll want a die set for the same caliber your chambering the rifle in. You will need either a full length resize die or neck sizing die. You need a bullet seating die...

Re: Newbie needs answers

I should have been a little more in depth. I have a complete rifle with a scope, all I'm going to need is a bolt with the proper face on it, a barrel and dies. What does everyone use for dies? Also, don't I need a trim die to do the 1st forming?

Re: Newbie needs answers

Chamber it for 300BLK. It's AAC's version of 300 Whisper/fireball/whatever. They've submitted it to SAAMI and Remington is making factory ammo for it at competitive prices. The main difference between it and most 300's is it has slightly longer freebore.

You'll need a .378 (.223) bolt and I like Douglas barrels myself. I used a Douglas SS for my whisper project with good results. 1/8 is a good choice if you're planning on subsonic. I like the Redding dies personally.

Load data and pretty much everything else for the Whisper/whatever can be found here: Quarterbore

OK, things look like they are moving along at a good pace. I have now located a bolt for my receiver and a barrel is nothing but a phone call, now where do I find a reamer. I like the idea of the "blackout" but I don't feel like paying full price just to chamber one bbl. Also, on the subject of dies, don't I need a trim die to shorten the 223 cases, before forming the new neck? I build and compete with several wildcat cartridges, but this is new ground to me and I really appreciate any and all help you people are giving me.
Thanks,
