Greetings, New to posting on this site. Usually shoot BPCR. However, I'd like to do some "modern" shooting. Recently dusted off M1A I built from GI NM parts back in the 80's. Fired once for function and stored it. I purchased and installed an ARM 18 mount and #22 rings. Now I need a scope. I'm just unsure which one. Range out to 600 yds and budget of $1200 or less. Would appreciate any insight from this forum.

Thanks,
Powderkeg

Re: Newbie needs help selecting scope

I think the two best choices are a new or used Leupold 2.5-8x36 Mk4 - here is one that's $230 less than new.
Used 2.5-8x

or a used Nightforce 2.5-10x32

They are the right size, magnification, price for the rifle and budget and both are well tested.

Range out to 600 yds, $1200 budget....

I would say look at the Vortex viper PST 4-16 or 6-24 which are FFP so you can range on any power and come with matched reticle/turret (mil/mil). These are well within your budget.

If ranging on any power is not important to you and you up your budget by around $500 or so you can get a Nightforce 3-15 or 5.5-22 in SFP (Second Focal Plane) and matched turrets in mil/mil or Moa/moa.

The bushnell HDMR seems like another good scope.

Also check out the optics for sale section for some pre-owned scopes also. Nightforce, Vortex,

Dan where are you in IL if you are in the northern half you can run to Schryver's (forreston, IL) they usually have nightforce, leupold, and vortex in stock. Not saying you have to buy one there but at least u will know what you like before you make your buy. That's what i did. I left with a nightforce.

Not Dan but JeffL. I'm in Lake in the Hills. However, I'll be in freeport this week. I'll swing by.

Thanks,
