I have done a bunch of searching and watching videos but cant figure it out so I have a question. Just getting started reloading with hornady Lock n Load Classic I got for christmas. I am using once fired 223 brass, and hornady dies. I set up the resizing die so it is just touching the shell holder at the top of the stroke and the depriming pin is sticking out about 3/16" per the directions and everything else I have read. My question is this: How far in the die should the brass go when resizing? Mine goes in almost all the way except the last little bit, like 1/4" or less maybe more, and gets very hard to move beyond that, it does not feel like a definet stop, but would take a 5lb hammer to make it go further. does it need to all go in? how do I check if I am doing it right? Your help is gratefully appriciated, Like I said I am new at this, have read several differnet instructions including the sticky here by doc, feel free to talk at me like I am a 3rd grader

Re: newbie ? resizing

I am also a newb to reloading. Rest assured that the guy's on here are usually class act's and won't treat you like a 3rd grader. lol. They are usually very apt to help in every way possible... until..... you do something or say something that you really need to be chewed about

Good luck in you search and with the re-loading. i will be next to ask the questions. T

Re: newbie ? resizing

I can think of 2 things right off hand that may account for the resisnatce you speak of. Raise the decapping rod assembly just a little. Maybe so that it just clears out the bottom of the shell holder.

The other step, use just a little more lube on the main body of the case. From the bottom of the shoulder junction to the extractor groove.

Try a few cases and see if either of these steps help. For starters you should have the case completely covered with die and shell holder. If either of these steps doesn't help, write back and we'll try something else. But those two things are what I would check first.

Good luck.

Re: newbie ? resizing

I tried plenty of lube and went as far as to move the deprimer completely out of the way. Did the idiot check and confirmed 223 brass and die. How much force should it take?

Sometimes beginning something new is a shot in the dark. Take time to read BOOKS and gather all the knowledge you can. It will make it all the more enjoyable for you.

Good luck.
