Gunsmithing NFA AR15 pistol build question

I read somewhere that if I put a vertical forward grip on a AR15 pistol that it then becomes an NFA weapon. Is this true?

It will need to become a AOW, which is a 5 dollar tax.

yes adding a forward pistol grip to an ar pistol or any pistol in that mater makes it in to a NFA item and it needs to be registered as so

I think it is a $200 tax to make, but a $5 tax to transfer.
