I was just curious as to how the AWB of 1994 impacted buying and selling NFA items like SBRs and selective fire rifles that, if they were semi autos, would have been regulated. Were you restricted from buying them, or did their status as NFA items put them beyond the purview of the AWB?

Buying and selling of any "semiautomatic assault weapon" (SAW), including SBRs, was still allowed when the ban was in effect; there just couldn't be any new ones manufactured with more than two "prohibited features", which obviously restricted configurations of post-ban semi-auto short-barreled rifles and shotguns.

Select-fire NFA weapons were not affected (didn't matter, since obviously one couldn't build new ones for civilian ownership since '86).
