Benefits? Downfalls? I'd like to get some firsthand opinions if possible.

I'm saving up to get, at some point, a MATEN set for a long range target AR build, and wondering if paying the extra $70 for a NiB coated receiver set is worth it.

I'd probably coat the outside in matte black, but does the NiB coating inside the receiver hold up well?

Re: NiB coated receivers

IMO, it's just for the BLING factor. NiB is great stuff to coat surfaces that get a lot of wear and also tough places to clean. however, you don't have any of those issues on the inside of an AR upper or lower reciever. ok, maybe the inside of the upper where the bolt rides, but that's gonna be it

remember what you paid for this, IANAL and YMMV
