I did some searching but couldn't come up with much. I am in need of getting a night vision scope for pig hunting in Texas. (This is a super important post. LOL)

For around $700 or less what is the best night vision SCOPE on the market. I know I can't afford Gen II or Gen III and so am looking for a reasonable Gen I. I would be mounting it on a Ar-10 Platform, mostly so I can take it off during the day, and installing a standard scope.

I was thinking 4x-5x. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions about models, etc. It would be used for hunting at night, but besides that my options are pretty open.

Thanks,

Re: Night Vision Suggestions

We try to tell everyone to save up for at least a Gen 3 if you can, you will never be dissapointed. With that said, the very least you should get into is a Gen 2, such as a D-740 4x system. A Gen 1 with their lacking resoltution, clarity and brightness is just not very workable for serious NV hunting work. Hope this helps.

Re: Night Vision Suggestions

I see your product are very easy to install on a AR plateform with picatinny rail.
I am curious about the maximum distance of the NV from the daylight scope.

I have an AICS and considering the purchase of a Badger IMUNS.
Any problems with mounting a NV that far ahead of the scope?

Thanks

Re: Night Vision Suggestions

I have a Gen 3 NV weapon sight on a 204 Ruger. Couple of thoughts...

First, and foremost, you will be sorely disappointed on a Gen 1 scope. I simply tell you this so you don't waste 700 dollars. I don't sell NV, but use them for both work and pleasure. Pig hunting with a Gen 1 IIT will be very difficult. The resolution and signal to noise ration is very poor and you will not be able to make out a pig past 75-100 meters unless there is a ton of ambient light.

While a Gen 2 is a step in the right direction, I would never settle for anything less that a CGT tube on a Gen 2.

Finally, if a Gen 3 is totally out of the question price wise, take a look at a Gen 3B tube. Basically, they are Gen 3 IITs with blems. They usually have a spot or two on the phosphorus plate, but have all the resolution of a true Gen 3 IIT. My current NV weapon system is a Gen 3B and I got it for thousands less than a Gen 3. I'll get some pictures of it for you tonight and post them. I wish I still my Gen 1 scope, and you would see what I mean. Even with my 3B tube, I could easily make out a pig to 300 in low ambient light situations.

I run an ATN 7700. I couldn't agree more with people who say ATN day scopes are junk, as I had one. I bought it because their NV is not and I couldn't understand how their day scopes could be so horrible when their NV isn't. But trust me, ATN dayscopes are trash. I really like their NV. Watch Ebay, at least once a week a good NV weapon sight pops up on there.

Pics to follow.

ya man, wait and save for a gen 3 it will be worth it, i had a gen 1 on my AR and sold it as soon as i tried it out, saved up for a gen 3 and its g2g, you can't even compare the gen 1 to the 3.

Ok so here is a pic of the lighting. There is some ambient light, but all in all, its dark

Same pic, via a 3B IIT. Unfortunately, I don't have my Gen 3 here. Notice the cab driver...

Re: Night Vision Suggestions

Sorry for the horrible camera shots. I couldn't get my cam to focus clearly at all. Still looks pretty good. I'll work on manipulating the camera to get better pics. But for now, you get the picture.
