I just purchased one of the new Nightforce F1's with high speed turrets. I choose the mildot version because the MLR was out of stock and I like how the mildots are hollow with a center dot.

Today I received my scope and I was looking it over and I noticed the reticle was different than what was on NF's website. Looking at the included documentation proved that it is in fact different. It seems as though on the F1 models the mildots are hollow without the center dot. A bummer but not a big deal.

The next thing is that is interesting, and I don't know if this is a typo but the reticles seem to be a different dimensions.

Here is the reticle manuel that came with my scope:
http://nightforceoptics.com/nightforcescopes/LIBRARY/Nightforce_Reticle_Manual.pdf

As you can see the on the dimensions page of the mildot, the dot itself is 1/4 MIL wide. I don't have a scan yet, but there was a loose paper with the information on the F1 mildot reticle that is not in the book. However, the dimensions there are in MOA. The dot is 1/4MOA wide.

My question is are the reticles really different sizes or is this just a typo? The separate sheet clearly says all dimensions are in MOA, while the book is in MIL's.

Why would they leave out the dot in the new F1 models? I find it really interesting that there is no information anywhere that the reticles are different for F1 models. I'm kind of bummed because I thought the center dot would help me calculate mils better than the sold dots. Not as good as the MLR, but a good middle ground.

I'm going to call NF on Monday, but I am curious if anyone has any in site on the matter. This is my first NF so I don't know if this is just normal...

Re: Nightforce First Focal Plane Mil dot reticle

At SHOT show I noticed that too. I really like the NF mildot with the center dot as well. Maybe they were thinking that at the lower power settings the circles get too small for the center dot to be useful(??)

I hope on the future 5.5-22x F1 that they will keep the center dots.

As far an the size of the circle, that would be easy enough to determine, just look at a target of known size and known distance, and it will be immediately obvious if the dots are 0.25 MIL or not.

If you want I can email you some of these known size printable targets for you to get your rifle zero and test the reticle dimensions.

Mark,

It is a huge bummer! I wonder if down the line I can pay to the reticle swapped out...

I'll gladly take those files! I'm shoot you a PM. I want to make sure what size the reticle really is.

Re: Nightforce First Focal Plane Mil dot reticle

I called Nightforce today. They don't have a PDF version of the F1 reticle and they did confirm that the reticles are different on the first focal plane scopes. They will email me a PDF copy of the reticle later next week when they get it.

In the link I posted above all those reticles are for the second focal plane scopes only.
