I have a NF with NP-R1. I emailed NF and asked them is the recticle true MOA or IPHY. They replied that it was true MOA. I then saw in the NF instructions that the formula for finding distance with this recticle included the constant of 100 in the formula which is the constant for IPHY. Can anyone shed any light of this apparent contradiction?

Re: NightForce Recticle Subtension

It's because while almost all of us know 1 MOA = 1.0471996", the typical shooter can't tell & doesn't care about the difference. NF is better off leaving their manual as is & prevent confusing the 99.99% buyer. The 0.01" buyer doesn't need and isn't using the manual anyways.

As long as they keep cranking out great scopes, NF knows they have us by the balls cause they're keeping existing customers satisfied. Marketing 101 them dictates priority is capture new customers--civilian enthusiast shooters. Otherwise, they would be trying to convince us all MOA sucks and Mil is the only way to go.

OK then which Mil system should they convince us to use, Army or Marine? We certainly would want to be politically correct and have some system for the Air Force and Coast Guard. They have feelings too. Whatever system a manufacturer uses I just want them to describe it clearly and accurately. I just found out my USO SN-3 with PCMOA "reticle" and adjustments is IPHY. This does make range calculations a bit easier since the constant in the range formula is 100. I did not find that information on USO's website, I called and asked.

Re: NightForce Recticle Subtension

They would clearly support the Army cause they only offer round dots!

I'm only poking fun at the AF cause I served 7 years ... no individual mil-dot scale needed there cause combat came second to performance reports and PowerPoint slides.
