I am trying to mount a Nightforce REM LA 20 MOA Rail Scope Base on my Remington M700 MLR .338LM. The screws that came with the base are too small. What size do I need to mount this rail to the rifle??
The diameter of the screws are too small. The screws included with the NF Base are the proper length, but they freely move in and out of the holes without twisting.
Please pardon my ignorance when it comes to mechanical terms.
Is the rifle used? I think some people have the scope base holes opened up and re-tapped for better holding strength and also to correct for off axis holes that require you to dial too much windage for a proper zero.
Salmonaxe, it is a second hand rifle. I am starting to think the screws are the Magnum 8X screws (at least that is what Tally calls them). But I wanted to run the question by some folks that are A LOT smarter than me.
The MLR's are 8x40. The base will also have to be drilled out to accept the larger screws. At least that was the case, when my gunsmith mounted the 40 MOA Nightforce Base on my MLR.
