I'm looking at a Nightforce SHV to put on top of a Savage Ashbury Precision rifle in 6.5. I'm stuck between the 4-14x50 F1 FFP scope and the 5-20x56 SFP scope. Main use of it will just be for target shooting as I work up to 600 yards (max distance at convenient local range).
On my Tikka CTR I have a PST II 5-25x50 FFP scope and am used to reticle being consistent MOA regardless of magnification. Similar to wanting to stay with MOA since I'm used to MOA, I'm leaning towards the SHV F1 so I don't need to have to think if I need to factor in magnification or not depending on which rifle I'm shooting. But with my eyes already not being great I'm wondering if I'd prefer the higher 20x magnification vs the 14x and lose the consistent reticle markings. At 600 yards aiming at a 10" plate I'm thinking there won't be a significant difference between it appearing to be 42.86 yards (14x) vs 30 yards (20x).
After typing this I'm also realizing that since the Tikka will likely be more of a hunting rifle with game at <400 yards I could just put the SHV F1 on it and then PST II on the Savage...
