Liberals. Lol. Looking for a complete unit. Don’t want to buy a unit and then a mount that likely won’t work. Don’t want to blow my load on a first purchase. Been looking at a hogster. Are they variable zoom? What’s the difference between thermal and nv? Difference between 25, 35, and Super?

1) They come with the mount built-in. Put away your day-scope thinking.

2) Almost all NV or Thermal Scopes are fixed optical focal length. Thermals will use digital "zoom".

3) Hogsters are excellent entry-level thermals. Best-in-class for the money.

4) You'll spot 100x more living critters with thermal than NV.

5) Figure out your average usage pattern -- range, terrain, target diversity, etc. You'll need to know all of that before figuring out what's the best solution for you.

There are a a lot of options which require your input to narrow it down.
Like, how much are you willing to spend/budget?
What type of terrain do you plan to hunt in? Heavy, thick woods and/or brush? Wide open pastures or prairies?
Do you want an optic to scan with and mount to a rifle or separate scanner and rifle mounted?

You could use a Hogster R35, NOX, etc etc etc

You need to provide a little more info to help us, help you.

Or, you could call Night Goggles and talk to them.

If looking at the hogsters don’t rule out the AGM Rattler that came out this year. Very similar to Hogster with on board recording like the super Hogster. Also priced several hundred less. I have the hogster R35. Haven’t had a chance to hunt with it yet but a nice unit from the time I’ve spent just testing it out

I live in western KS. Everything from in your face to 500 yards out. Depending on which way I look. Looking for a do it all. Now do I put it on the .300 or the. .223 or the 6.5 creed? What is digital “zoom”?

The Hogster 25 can shoot comfortably to 150 yards. (1.4x Base/Optical Magnification; FOV 14.9°)
The Hogster 35 can shoot comfortably to 200-225 yards. (2x Base/Optical Magnification; FOV 10.7°)
The Super Hogster can shoot comfortably to 300+ (2.9x Base/Optical Magnification; FOV 7.5°)

All Hogsters have PIP (Picture In Picture) which is a small window (if activated) which doubles (2x) the main window magnification.

With the Super Hogster, you also gain internal video recording, 4 additional reticles, compass, inclinometer

I'm trying to envision the difference in FOV between the R35 at 10.7 and Super at 7.5.
To make sure I am correct, 7.5 degree FOV at 1000 yards is 393 feet and 100 yards is 39.3 feet.
For 10.7 FOV at 1000 yards 560.68 feet and at 100 yards is 56 feet.
Is this correct?

Yes, my number came out to 56.17' at 100 yards or 561.75' at 1000 yards. There is a complex mathematical function (which you might have used) to get the number, but the quickest is to take the FOV angle and multiply by 52.5. This gives you feet at 1000 yards.

Open ground favors more magnification, close quarters (brush, woods) favors wider FoV; and thus the questions on terrain you expect. Thermal and long range don't go hand-in-hand unless you have US military-kinda budget. As said above, you'll get a few hundred yards of shot-taking out of a hogster and 2X that in target ID.
The hogsters are a great value, I hunted a 35 pretty hard this past season and it did very well as a scanner and scope. I run side-by-side with much more expensive thermals and have yet to feel I couldn't take a shot they could due to not enough visibility or resolution.

Mileage varies.

Rancid Coolaid, I hear you and agree. I will say the Super does provide another 50-100 yards of range for comfortable shooting at the sacrifice of FOV in comparison to the 35, so it is a trade off.

I was out on Sunday evening, with the Super Hogster and the Phenom in conditions that would make most people put thermals away. It was 100% humidity with fog. The image wasn't great, but the Bering thermals still allowed me to hunt . There are many thermals I have used in the past that wouldn't have cut it in these conditions. This stand tied my record with 7 coyotes on the same stand. Ironically, it happened at the same location, 1 year and 1 day from when I did the same thing last year. Crazy or should I say Deja Vu.

Can they be bought without the mount if we plan to buy the Bobro upgrade ourselves?

Night Goggles includes the $75 upgraded Tactical QR mount with the Hogster 35 and Super Hogster. We do not sell it without the mount as it performs for our customers and Prostaff. I have over 200 coyotes that can attest to that just from my Super alone. There is one dealer who pushes Bobro, and they run a very popular Facebook Night Vision/Thermal group. This group seems convinced all thermal factory mounts are junk which is not the case. If you go this route, Bering recommends the scope be mounted by them as they align it on an optical bench and secure it into position so the scope can retain zero. When Bering puts on their standard or tactical QR mount, they do the same thing and then not only fasten it in place, but also epoxy it to make sure it stays in position.
