Very interesting. I've been looking to step up from my Springers and Kimbers so I've been reading and fondling for the last month and the Talon I fondled over the weekend had the worst action. I was expecting it to feel like it had bearings but some of my guns felt better. Since I could see that it had lube I was either expecting too much out of the box, it needed break in, or that was just an oddball based on all the positive feedback I've seen on Nighthawks. The Wilsons and the one Baer were tied so I couldn't compare.
On the flip side, the finish was fantastic. Made my 5", which spent a month at my local smith, seem like it was assembled down at the preschool. </div></div>
Odd. I've shot several and the actions made me drool. Though maybe something made it past QC. God knows that seems to happen to everybody at least once in a while. The Baers I've handled have been so tight that it was hard to tell how smooth they were. Seems like Nighthawk's finishes are second to none as well. Lately I've been thinking about the Tactical Carry that they're putting Heinie's name on but don't know if I'll do it or not.
Years ago I had a Kimber Custom Stainless and the blasted finish on it was rather course and lets just say they didn't exactly tape off the slide rails. It was rough enough that even 1000 rds didn't fully take care of it. So I got ahold of a couple of black hard Arkansas stones and made a few passes on the rails of both the slide and the frame and that did the trick. That said, I expect better from Nighthawk.
