Rifle Scopes Nikon IRT .223 Laser Rangefinding Scope?

Re: Nikon IRT .223 Laser Rangefinding Scope?

I used one in the store at Bass Pro Shops in Denver about a year ago. Does that count? Honestly it wasnt good enough that I'd ever consider spending any money on one. I don't even remember which one it was. I tried to get a range out of a window maybe 125yds and it wouldn't work. Now this isn't just something that happened to it but alot of the lower powered LRF's won't do that. They also don't like fog or any kinda precipitation in my experience. So after the first one I had like that I won't waste my money on another one. If you were only going to use it for hunting, the BDC was in a good range for you, and you only went hunting when it was nice out, then I'd say go for it. If it had a more powerful laser you could eliminate the last one and be good to go.

Point taken. I figured that since there was little talk about it on the boards that it was more of a gimmick than anything else.

I have an older Bushnell Elite 1500 rangefinder that works well. I'll just march on with it.

Re: Nikon IRT .223 Laser Rangefinding Scope?

Ive actually had a lot of great feedback from the Burris Eliminators from customers and rarely see any come back. I've only used them around here but havent hunted with one yet, but they do have a nitch. I've had the chance to tinker around with Nikon's IRT and I was impressed. Its nice keeping your eye behind the glass and scanning and knowing the ranges. One down side is that it is more electronics, and in the extreme cold the range function can be delayed or not work. Overall they are nice products.

Comment for looking thru glass, we just tried using rangefinders thru glass here at the office and had interesting results. on most of the clear glass the reading was accurate, but then on some tinted glass doors and windows we had mixed readings. It seemed ours werent reading through some tinted windows. So if you cant get a reading through glass, it might be normal.

Trevor,
I should have noted that it was clear glass and there was no reading given. I've found the more powerful LRF's don't have any problems with it. I've never tried it through any heavy tinted windows either. A good example is while I was deployed I had a real cheap Bushnell 600 it wouldn't work through the ballistic glass in a HMMWV, but a the issued Vector IV worked fine through them. The same Bushnell wouldn't work through the glass on the sliding door here at the house but the Fusion 1600's do. I'd also noticed in either fog, rain, or snow the cheaper ones wouldnt get a reading alot of the time, but I have yet to have any problems with the Fusions. It'd be interesting to see a comparison of a bunch of LRF's in different conditions, with one factor being through glass.
