Well, I am driving down the I-95 today outside of Ormond Beach, and the mini-van in front of me swerves to miss some debris on the highway. The debris was a big ass driveshaft from a garbage truck broke down on the side of the highway. Well, he clipped it and blew out his right rear tire, and I drove right over it. After slowing down and pulling over I check for damage, I was good to go, no damage, but I see this elderly gentlemen pulled over on the road ahead with the flat. So I walk up and ask if I can help, and he is wearing a Chosen Reservoir Vets hat, well thats a no brainer, I respect those that came before me.

So I pull out is spare, but he doesn't have any tools, so I go get mine and proceed to change his flat. Well as I am changing his tire, I realize some dumb shit crossthreaded a lug nut with an impact wrench, and as I am fighting to get it off my cell phone keeps falling out of its holster. So I lay it down inside the back of his mini-van and get back to fighting the lug nut. As I am doing this the conversation was great, he enlisted during WWII and retired in the 60's, and had just recently had triple by-pass surgery. The guy reminded me of my grandfather. Finally I get it off, and put on his spare. He thanks me gratefully and offers to pay me, I told thanks for his service, but no thanks to the offer of payment. I had a handfull of tools, and told him I would be back to get my phone, and to give me a few minutes.

Here is were the funny part kicks in, after putting my tools up in the truck box, I go back to get my phone and he's gone! Driving right on up the shoulder to pull on the interstae. I was like son of bitch, there goes my work phone. So I wave at him to get his attention, and he just stuck his arm out the window and waved back, as to says thanks. Oh well, shit happens I guess.

Re: No Good Deed Goes UNPUNISHED !

He will discover the phone, and make an effort to get it back to you.
He can check the contact list, call a few people, describe how he ended up with it, and someone will put the two of you together.
Or he can send it to your cell provider, and they will get it to you.
Or he will say "F that pogue", and call all over Europe.
JK, I am sure the old guy will try to get the phone back to you.

^^ Get an EVO. We are loosing WWII vets so fast now, soon they will all be gone. It's become a special thing these day's to talk to one.

Re: No Good Deed Goes UNPUNISHED !

No kidding. Karma is funny at times. Good on you for helping this older gent.

However, at his age and generation, he has probably never owned/used a cell phone in his life, otherwise he may have called for help all on his own. He also probably never goes back to that part of the vehicle so he'll never see it, especially since he didn't have tools and has impact gun cross-threading from a tire shop or hired mechanic. Also, I hope your ring tone isn't so loud (or has gun shots, plays Ride of the Valkyries, etc.) that an incoming call on "your" work phone scares the shit out of him and causes him to stroke out while driving, only to end up in a head-on collision with a school bus.

Ain't I just a ray of sunshine?

All kidding aside, isn't great when you're able to help out people like this that you'd otherwise never, ever get a chance to meet? Good job, sir.

LOL. That's a good one...er, that would be very bad. I'd ask my wife why she calls me a pessimist, but I don't think I'd like to hear her response.

LOL the funny part is the old bird prolly didnt understand half of what you were saying while you were talking to him. Hell he is prolly driving around wondering why the hell his van has a funny sound coming out of the back of it.
