Hi guys, new to the forum, been a lurker/reader for a while. Here is a build I am putting together, let me know what you think...

Savage stainless steel bolt action blue printed

McGowen Barrel Match .308 1-10 Twist SS

XLR industries stock with AICS mag

Bolt lift kit, over sized tactical knob

Heavy recoil lug

I'm running the same bolt nob and love it. I am SERIOUSLY jealous of the stock. I'm about to upgrade my barrel to a 6.5x47 or a 260rem. I can't decide. Love my 308 but if you're wanting to shoot past 1K gotta run a different caliber.

I've looked at those stocks a bit, very interesting. I like out of the ordinary things and that definitely is. How much was it?

The stock and mag plus shipping was $900 to Canada, as far as I know, this is the first one across the line.

Can't wait to put it through its paces!

eek, I'd have to have a little extra padding in the wallet for toys before I could justify that much for a stock but I sure do like it. Love to hear how its accuracy is once you put it through its paces.

I think it'd look badass to have the action/barrel coated in like OD green or something similar and leave the stock black.

I had origionally planned a total flat black set up. My builder talked me into letting him set it up in stainless and black, didn't think I would like it but it's growing on me. When I get it in person, I might go with a OD or black coating, we'll see, for now this is keeping a smile on my face!

I like what you've done with the bolt knob. I was never crazy about that ball on the Savage I had.

Can you explain what pictures 1,4, and 5 are showing? Sorry if this is rookie question.

If I get the pics you mean, 1 is the machining of a potential bolt knob, 4 and 5 are of a thrust bearing kit that goes inside the bolt to make the opening and closeing of the bolt smoother. No metal on metal grinding/rubbing feeling. Also for what its worth, a little quieter. It goes in the ass end of the bolt, near the handle. A small spacer needs to be machined, and is totally reversable. Takes about 2 minuts to remove.

This has a 28" McGowen SS match barrel in 1 in 10 twist (.308) I went longer to gain the extra MV. What bullet would you expect to fly best to 1000 yards? Would you expect it to shoot accurately much past 1000?

How well does that thrust bearing really work? I suppose you got that from the gentleman over on savageshooters.

I will post a report on the whole build. I have yet to handle the rifle, it is due to ship tomorrow. Not sure when I will get the first rounds downrange, but forsure wil be posting about the F/F, balance, etc. I am also interested to see if the thrust bearings are worth the effort.

Have you been on the savageshooter forum? The best idea i've seen thus far is the 38special case with a polished set screw/bearing...and a bearing mounted in the BAS screw. I would think the combination of these would provide the least amount of surface area thats in contact with one another. I have also used flitz to polish everything inside of the bolt body. This actually seems to help slightly. Keep us posted]

Built by North Shore Barrels in Ontario. Quick turnaround, and easy to deal with!

Chris19210, heard about the 38 Special set up, never seen it. I will make comments on the thrust bearings though. Should have the rifle this week, earlie this week I hope

OK, rifle arrived safe and sound, and WOW! Nice work! Fit and finish is amazing! I ave yet to get to the range, that is to follow. Have some .308 Lapua brass on the way, should be here tomorrow.

As for the bolt lift kit, the answer is yes, there is a big difference! I took the new rifle to the local shop, and compared the lift side by side with a 10FCP, and a BAK, chambering and ejecting snap caps, and empty brass, the bearings make this action slick as snot! No comparrison. My rifle has a fairly tight head spacing, and even still, there is only smooth action, mind you there is still tension, and effort to open close, but it is very smooth, buttery smooth.

The bearings were changed on completion of the build, so a thinner profile could be acheived. The only thing to do to complete the instalation, is make a spacer. You can see it in the end of the bolt in this pic.
