Not A Typical Mt. Biking Vid.Military Application?

Re: Not A Typical Mt. Biking Vid.Military Application?

I've done this. It will get you into some different terrain for hunting, especially for areas that have had the roads shut down to all motor vehicles. I even designed and built a rifle scabbard that hitched up to the frame that was reinforced and padded.

One thing is for sure--you'll cover some ground and have some land to yourself.

Hunting with a bike, that's a great idea! Cyclists used to be standard components in many armies up until the end of the Second World War. They were often used as scouts and messengers. The bicycle offered an inexpensive, light-weight, low-maintenance solution for moving troops around quickly. I would imagine with today's technology the military could come up with a light weight carbon fiber bicycle and carriage.

The Paratrooper® is a full size, 24 speed mountain bike designed to endure any terrain at high speed in silence with no heat signature. In addition to the high performance feature, the bike folds simply without the use of tools.

By turning one quick lever, the Paratrooper® folds in less than 30 seconds into 3' x 3' pack that can be dropped from a plane, strapped to the side of an LAV or thrown in the back of a trunk.

These bikes I believe are extracycles I'm pretty sure they're kitted out with mountainbike tires.

I have a friend that's an elk hunter that rolls out like this. 5 guys on mountainbikes can cover way more ground than 10 walking.

You can also drag a surprising amount of shit around the woods if you rig it up correctly.

Just 2 days ago I towed a longboarder 7 and a half miles up several hills

Full grown man, so you figure that's gotta be around an elk quarter.

This is a bike called the Pugsley made by Surly. It's an extreme conditions mountain bike, and damn if it isn't fun to ride. </div></div>

Hahaha that picture is so badass thanks for sharing. I actually ride a Surly every day crosscheck specifically I love the hell out of it.

Re: Not A Typical Mt. Biking Vid.Military Application?

They need to powdercoat or otherwise blacken the chrome bits.

Glad to see they don't have the federally mandated reflectors on the spokes.

Can you imagine some SF guy out there with streamers on the handlebar ends?

Re: Not A Typical Mt. Biking Vid.Military Application?

It's a picture off a Surly's blog...so post away, or so I assume. The rider in the photo isn't me, but I have the same bike that i've used for coyotes.

COURAGEWOLF,
The cross-check is a wonderful bike, though between my Pugsley, Karate Monkey and Long Haul Trucker, my Surly fleet is well established. As a cyclist, I am quire jealous of your location. What are the firearms laws like in Oregon?

Surprisingly pretty good. It's a well kept secret, however the county I live in(Multnomah) has a sheriff that's known to be pretty anti-firearm and getting them to sign off on my can has turned into a royal pain.

However, outside of Multnomah county it's pretty much anything goes, although the riding is better here. It's a tradeoff I suppose.

If you ever make it out this way give me a holler I'll show you around.
