Noticed this while cleaning today. Will this mess with my accuracy? I’ve only been to the range a hand full of times. This is a brand new rifle. Thoughts?

How’s the gun shoot now?
Well,... the last time I took it out I managed a 5 shot group at a hundred yards about the size of a dime. Took it out of my safe today to clean it. Just happened to look into the muzzle end with a flash light and noticed that little nick right at the end of the rifling. It could have been there the entire time for all I know...

I think you have your answer.

I suppose I’ll find out next time I take it to the range. I can’t imagine a brass jag could have done that in the cleaning process.
Zero chance of that nick being caused by a brass jag. Brass is not going to damage hardened steel. Remington quality being what it is, this has to be a factory defect, though judging by the groups in your photo, you don’t have to worry about accuracy.

Agreed on likelihood of bronze jag damaging the crown, but for the record, barrel steel is not hardened.

I've got one 700 where the chamber is a little off line with the bore and the lands look a little mashed, that is not constant width down the barrel in one spot. And yet with handloads the damn thing is a hammer.

I’ve been using federal gold medal match. 167 grain I believe. Just put a trigger tech special in it. Having gotten a chance to take it to the range with the trigger tech yet though.

This rifle is on my list to buy, the Gen 2 5R has really done well. That nick would be something they would swap barrels but, wow if you putting dimes over your groups with GMM. That is a definite keeper, how many inch barrel is that 20 or 24?

This is a 5R Gen 1 with a 24 inch barrel. Out of the box too. I haven’t changed out the stock or anything. I went with the Gen 1 because I prefer the all stainless look with the jeweled bolt.
