FT Smith, Ar
I have been running with a 12 or 12.5 inch AR for a little while now, and have found it to be the ideal length for me. Compact enough for work inside buildings, houses, and vehicles; yet still enough barrel length to hit out to 300+ yards without offset aiming. I am also big fan of Noveske products, very reliable, durable, and their customer service is top notch. When I was piecing together my last carbine, Noveske was only offering their chrome lined barrels in 10.5, 14.5 and 16. I couldn't see getting a stainless steel target barrel for the kind of shooting I do, so I went with a Daniel Defense (now listed in the Options for sale section at an awesome deal

). Needless to say, I was pretty ecstatic after talking to Joel at Noveske and he said their next project was 12.5 chrome lined uppers.

They wouldn't let me pre-order so after 2 months of checking their website everyday, the new Noveske General Purpose Rifle (GPR) 12.5 inch finally appeared on their page last Friday. I first ordered a basic which listed sold out right after I completed my order. Long story short, I called Monday morning and talked them into selling me a Lo Pro with an 11 inch SWS rail instead of the standard 9, and they were very happy to oblige.

It showed up at my door last night and here it is:

I've never used a KX3 before, and I'm not to sure about throwing a six foot flame out of my barrel especially at night (seems like it might make a pretty good target indicator for the bad guys); but I'm going to try it out and most likely swap it out with my Smith Vortex. So, watch for a very slightly used KX3 in the options sale section coming up.

I hope to get out to the range in the next couple of days (wife willing

). I will have a range report after I do.

Excellent. I hate litter bugs

Re: Noveske's GPR

Yeah you got me, this is a carbine that I shoot for personal training and recreation; not as a duty weapon (at least not until my agency makes some serious policy changes). That said, I still like my personal weapons to be capable of the same things as my duty weapons (even though I can't afford the night vision capabilities).

Re: Noveske's GPR

They have a lot of absurd restrictions on our guys as well. Have a few friends that are LMPD and they are restricted to no lights, 20rd mags only, and eotechs only as a sighting system.

Its all politics. Not concerned with their safety.

No lights, WTF

Re: Noveske's GPR

if i'm shooting at someone at night, they probably know the direction i'm shooting from. i noticed the best thing about he KX3 was with people shooting next to me the gun wasn't NEARLY as loud, i have one on my 10.5" and love it. just saying

awesome weapon 12.5" really is the best carbine length

I hear they are changing that this month. They cleared a house and an officer was almost shot because he could not hold a light and his AR. This changed the boards minds pretty quick when an officer showed up with a lawyer and a lawsuit ready to go. I say good for him.

Too bad it took a near death to make the policy makers see it our way. Do you have a police union? I am normally against unions, but in some cases they are still very much needed.

Re: Noveske's GPR

I was able to get to the range this morning and test this thing out; I am very impressed.

After getting a 50 yard zero I chroned a few rounds:
XM193 2,746 fps
M855 2,678 fps
MK262 2,462

XM193 seemed a little slow, M855 and MK262 were right around what I expected.

I then shot at 100, 200, and 300 to see the difference in the three loads over distance.

At 100:
XM193 1.5" high
M855 .75" left and 1" high
MK262 1.5" left and .75" high

At 200:
XM193 1.5" high
M855 3" right and 2" low
MK262 .5 left and 1" low

At 300:
XM193: 6" low
M855 12" low
MK262 4" Left and 7" low

I wasn't shooting for groups, but I was pretty surprised to see the MK262 at about 1 min, (thought I'd share a photo, and I know that this does not comply with the group shot policy, but I am not going to waste my 262 ammo shooting dots out of a carbine).

The black circles are 6 inch diameter.

Re: Noveske's GPR

I hog hunted a ton with my 12.5 Noveske with KX3 before I suppressed, and I don't remember flame. Have you tried it at night yet? I don't think you'll be going back to the vortex.

Re: Noveske's GPR

I have a 10.5" Noveske in 6.8mm with the KX3. I was surprised how well it tamed the best in both muzzle climb and sound. It is my hunting rifle as most of my shots in Virgin are never over 125 yards at most.
