I have a couple 2.5-20s and a 4-32 that have been stellar. But I put a new to me 2.5-20 on a new build and it is having issues. I’m going to mount a different scope next weekend but all signs point to scope issues. Will shoot .4 - .5” groups now and then. Then throw a shot or 4 all over the place.

Have you checked torque on the base, action screws and otherwise?
What scope mount?
Details on the rifle? Is it bedded?

Retorqued action, base, Ring and ring cap screws today. Didn’t retorque the barrel but I’m sure it is good.
KRG stock so not needed.

going to try another scope here eventually

My NX8 4-32 F1 has been problem free. 352 (?) rounds of 300 Winchester Magnum and two backpack hunts.

Randomly throwing shots doesn't sound like a scope problem, it sounds like a mounting hardware or gun-to-stock problem.

At very least completely remove, then reinstall the scope with quality accessories and proper torque.
