Rifle Scopes NXS 3.5-15x 56mm

Re: NXS 3.5-15x 56mm

I don't think 56 is too much at all. It only kind of depends on how low profile you want to be. What gun are you thinking of mounting it on? I have a 5.5-22x50 & a 8-32x56. My only recommendation is to go with the NP-R1 reticle. I originally had the mil dot on the 50mm, but I sent it to Nightforce in Idaho, and they changed it for me. If this is your 1st NF, you will love it. I am thinking of getting another one in 3.5-15x56.

Re: NXS 3.5-15x 56mm

I had a 3.5-15x56mm w/NP-R1 mounted on my AR10, it wasn't too big at all. It was a great scope but I sold it so I could go with a FFP mil/mil scope, an SN-3.

Re: NXS 3.5-15x 56mm

This would be my 1st. I want it for my Remington700 w/ a 20moa base. I want to try and keep a lower profile. Doing a little at a time and want to start with the glass. Which means I will be sticking with a basic HS stock for now. What is the NP-R1 reticle? Can It be used is range estimation?

I have the 50mm and I like it. I alse have the 50mm in the 5.5x22. If I was getting another 5.5-22, for 1500 yards-plus, I'd get the 56 objective. But the 15x50 is my choice in that power range.

Before you buy, have a look at the MLR as opposed to the Mil Dot reticle, and seriously consider Mil knobs to match. You can use the NPR-1 for ranging, and it makes a good setup with MOA knobs, but I would only go with MOA knobs if my partner had the same system and we needed to speak the same language regarding come-ups. Otherwise, Mil/Mil is simpler and easier.

Are mil knobs extra? I have a feeling this could get real expensive.

Re: NXS 3.5-15x 56mm

Yeah, Mil knobs are extra.

And all of this gets real expensive real fast, but now you're changing the subject.

Consider value rather than expense: You might save money and time by buying Mil knobs first, instead of seeing 'the light' later and having the conversion done. Or, buy NPR-1 and MOA knobs, then you'll have a better possibility of re-sale if you decide to change to Mils.

Meanwhile, if you want to save a few bucks, look in the For Sale section here and buy a used NF from a reputable, verifiable member. I would not hesitate buying a used NF from someone who knew what he was doing.

Re: NXS 3.5-15x 56mm

I think the Mildot NXS reticle will be great for hunting, I have a 5.5-22x56 Mil dot with Mil adjust turrets (thats the key ensure you have matching turrets and reticle)this will be going on my .338 Norma mag build for whopping feral pigs etc. at longer ranges. So if your hunting with it I think the Mildot will be fine. Its the best Mildot out there I reckon with the clear dots.

I havea 5.5-22x50 MLR/MIL adj. thats going on my 6.5x47L I figure I will shoot smaller game with (foxes etc.) that so finer hold off points will be better for that rifle.

Re: NXS 3.5-15x 56mm

I have the 3.5 x 15 50--haven't ever wished I had the 56. I like the lower mount over the 56. Unless you are shooting +1000k in lower light, doubt you would miss it. If you are stuck on having it, better get it now, though. Expensive to swap it out later.
