What advantages does a larger objective offer over a smaller? I bought a USO SN3 that was listed as having a 58mm objective but what arrived actually is a 44mm. I felt the deal was fair and the seller was straight forward (meaning I dont thing he intentionally lied). In the photo it was hard to tell the size because of the angle and I never questioned it since the ad clearly listed 58mm lo profile. If Im not giving up anything I can live with the 44mm since thats what my ST10 has and I have been very satisfied with it. But on the other hand I have never had a 58mm so I have no point of reference to know what I might be missing.

the larger the objective the greater the light gathering abilities of that particular scope, that is if all else is equal. so around low light conditions, the image should appear brighter in a scope with a 58mm obj when compared to a scope with a smaller objective, again all else equal.

Got it, but I'm sure there's a point of diminishing returns. 14mm sound like a substantial difference but in a practice sense is it? Am I loosing 5 minutes at dusk or 30?
