OBT, QL, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Barrel Tuners.
QL is being used to simulate loads that OBT predicts as optimum.
OBT used a simplified model by selecting the most dominant factors that affect accuracy.
On the other hand, other shooters/engineers were working on modelling barrel with/without barrel tuners using advanced FEA software analysis.
I would like you to consider and compare the merits of both OBT and FAE approches. And, suggested what we can learn and benefits from either models.
Here is the FAE analysis: http://www.varmintal.com/aeste.htm
Please look for Muzzle Projection Curve and Muzzle Exit Time
I am inclined to conclude that if OBT is looking for the peak of the barrel pointing curve, the real node is in "the good" left part of curve. Which means that we are seeking loads that while MV is increasing the barrel would point lower. This exactly what a ladder test at long distance is seeking. Thus, the best investment is a good Muzzle brake (recoil dampener and free Barrel dampener), and a Ladder test hunting for the highest MV node.
