Going to be stuck in Vegas for a few days, thinking of renting a 4x4 and spending a day exploring.
any suggestions on where to go ?

I've not lived there for 30 years. That said red rock canyon was fun. Mt Charleston is not far. I damn near lived on Lake Mead. If you have time, Death Valley is like 70 miles away. Hookers and cocaine are available too. Post pictures if you can.

Depending how far you want to go, there’s the Desert National Wildlife Refuge just north west of the city, plenty of trails and hiking there. Valley of Fire/Virgin Peak area north east is also pretty cool. There’s some trails near Lake Mead / Nelson’s landing south east of town via US95. Or you can go to Area 51 if you’re into that sort of thing “. Appx 2.5 hours north of town via US93 to NV375. Red Rock and Spring Mountains immediately west/north west of the city.

Lots of bureau of land management land all around the Vegas area as well...send me a PM if you want more detailed info.

Go past Nellis AFB and the race track about a mile father up towards Apex. A bunch of fun 4x4 trails off to the right. Not too technical, some dunes, hills, trails etc. About right for a rental and not far to get to. Bring a jacket and water just in case...

I like valley of fire better than red rock, tends to be less crowded. Some decent 4x4 in the Muddy Mountains Wilderness area. Tough to beat Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon, but they are 3-4 hours north. PM me if you have questions.

Jean lake bed is fun., we took some trails from Vegas to Barstow, but we were all running baja style in our trucks.. glad I had 3 spares!!!
