I loaded a.308 round very loose in a case and the OGIVE was 2.410. Then I loaded the gun and closed the bolt, removed the round and it measures 2.370. I repeated three times with the loose round, and the number came out 2.370 every time.

So does this tell me that from bolt face to rifling is 3.370?

BTW this is a R5, and I was using a Hornady bullet comparator.

Re: OGIVE Question

If you used a long round every time and not just used the same one without pulling it back out. Use a magic marker or white board marker to black the bullet and you can see if it is touching the lands. Look for shiney spots near the ogive contact area.

Re: OGIVE Question

Re: OGIVE Question

I used a Black marker, and it measures 2.270 from the back of case to the shiny market on the bullet.

I did pull it back out each time.
