Ah Hell Naw!

A controversial Miami cop was suspended with pay after he argued at a Miami City Commission meeting last week that he identifies as a black male, despite his Caucasian complexion.

“We can confirm that Captain J. Ortiz has been relieved of duty with pay,” city spokesperson Michael Vega wrote in an email to the Miami New Times.

Vega would not divulge why he benched the former chief of the local Fraternal Order of Police, but Ortiz’s recent public comments to the commission, coupled with a lengthy history of controversy, leaves little to the imagination.

Ortiz faced criticism for identifying as a black man on lieutenant and captain exams for quicker promotions, and he came to the commission last Friday to defend his actions.

“I’m a black male,” he told commissioners to sneers from the crowd. “Yes I am.”

Ortiz appears white, but he argued race isn’t about appearances.

“I am not Hispanic. I was born in this country,” he said. “That’s how I feel.”

Chairman Keon Hardemon pressed for answers.

“I have a question for you,” he said. “So you classify yourself today as a black male?”

“Yes,” Ortiz said.

“When you applied for the police department, did you classify yourself as a black male or a white male at the time?” Hardemon questioned.

“I think I put white male,” Ortiz said. “Well, I know I put white male, but I don’t know if I put Hispanic.

“Listen, I know who I am but it’s also …”

Commissioner Joe Carollo cut in: “You put down Hispanic male.”

“Okay, as a man I stand by it,” Ortiz said.

“When did you have this, uh, you know, uh, coming to with God moment that you were black?” Carollo pressed. “When did God tell you that?”

“Well, I learned that there’s some people in my family that are mixed and that are black,” Ortiz said.

“I see,” Carollo said.

“Let’s not talk about the degree of blackness,” Hardemon said.

“Oh, no, you’re blacker than me, that’s obvious,” Ortiz said. “And if you know anything about the one-drop rule, which started in the 20th century, which is what identifies and defines … what a black male is, or a negro, you would know that if you have one drop of black in you, you are considered black.

“You are probably black too, Joe,” Ortiz told Carollo.

He also alleged “half of my family is Jewish, you probably didn’t know that either.”

Commissioners dismissed Ortiz after his 5 minutes of public comment expired, and Carollo offered his assessment.

“Mr. Ortiz claims that he’s, uh, black. Now we hear Jewish black,” he said. “I’m afraid maybe next month it will be, you know, a black Jewish woman. I don’t know.”

Ortiz’s comments ignited a firestorm of controversy and many local black leaders are now calling on the city to terminate his employment. The stunt is only Ortiz’s latest clash with the black community and the police department, where he’s racked up numerous investigations, complaints and suspensions for bad behavior, WPLG reports.

Is there in fact a level of "tone" to the skin that is required to be "black"?

Obama was 50/50 why did he pick black if there is oh so much privilege in being white?

I have a family member (married into our family) who is 25-35% black. He acts like he is black as coal, when it suits his needs.

Hopefully the “black leaders” will crash into the gender/race/sexuality fluid weirdos over this. Unfortunately the guys a cop, so it’ll be easy to squash him.

If it is practically illegal for you to point out that someone that says they are a woman actually is a man, or say they are a woman when they claim to be a man, (biology and reality be damned), then you should of course be able to claim any race you want, especially since there is a good chance a lot of people have a lot of mix in them, and the entire way "race" is defined is pretty stupid.

Would this even be a problem if the "black" title didn't get him promoted faster than a "white" title? Thats what the story needs to be about.

The problem with is that not only does nobody (including the courts it seems) care, they actually encourage it.

Try any large corporation.

Put in that you are a 50 year old white male and submit a stellar resume
Put in that you are a 24 year old black female and submit a sub par resume

For that matter try to join a police department or fire department.....
You'll soon see that the darker your skin color is, the less you have to worry about if you have what it takes in order to get the job....

It's just about open virtue signalling policy where companies openly talk about how they want to kick out white men and replace them with female minorities (and tough luck if you are an Asian male, you are now also "over represented").

And we wonder why there is "Race relations problems".......

right on man, its happened to me. local company post a job up, we all send in resumes, they take it down. If there were no minorities apply, they post it up and settle for a white male. Thats just racism

good for him.
i don't know if he is a loon, or why he is doing it, but we need to put the kybosh on racism in hiring and promotions, and that includes discrimination against white people.

This dude’s name is “ortiz” and he is white?? Fuck......i guess if “beto” can get away with being hispanic.....

The world we live in, i tell ya. Somedays, i swear there aint enough corona to fix it. And if you are wondering if i mean beers or virus....the answer is yes.

I'm Miami. The guy has a couple wires crossed and has been doing stunts for years. Mostly for reality tv and social media type attention. It would be funny if not for the fact that he carries a gun and badge.

I identify as a A-10 warthog. Where’s my GAU 8/A? Hey if a dude can identify as a chick, a wolf, or whatever, then I can identify as a A-10

I guarantee the next we here of this will be him winning an un disclosed settlement for un fair racial treatment. Right or wrong it’s the society we live in now.

This sets the stage to have a court quantify the amount of DNA needed to claim a status. I think it could get interesting.
Wonder how California Indian casinos would shake out if this became law.

Maybe we need a skin tone shade chart to help these people identify what they are.

But then again some people with weiners think they are women.
The whole world has gone batshit crazy

It is a shame, the whole problem, not being in a results orientated culture, this us why things have degraded to the level we are at.

If you want to get to the top in a government job or big corporation - you simply have to be a minority or protected class. If you can check 2 or 3 boxes in the “protected class” area of the application, you go to the head of the line for hire or promotion. It’s no surprise that people would try to game the unfair system that rewards skin tone and gender while penalizing any white male - regardless of performance, quality, education, experience, or ability.

IIRC, Obama is 50 percent white, 43.25 percent African and 6.75 percent Arab. Last two numbers may be slightly different.

Edited because I suck at math.
