Short answer, yes, just a simple bottom metal swap and internal box mag on a few makes. Some mfr detatchable bottom metal vs their hinged floorplate will have a different inlet.

Yes, but it depends on the rifle and type of mag system installed. Anything is possible with a Dremel and enough bedding compound

Nope, cant be done. All factory Remington drop mag rifles have the internal mag lips machined off, so he is pretty much stuck with either the factory unit, or he as to go with a Badger M5 or the like.
Are we talking about the Rem MLR 338Lapua? because thats the only 700P that I know of that comes with a drop mag system.

If he is having a problem with a factory rifle, why not send it back to Remington and have them fix it instead of trowing money at it yourself?

Ill tell him to call or i will just buy it and buy the badger myself. Its a 308 with the 26inch heavy barrel. Whats the cost to have this installed. Im not getting out the dremel.

contact CDI Precision, he will sell you his bottom metal and install it for you on the stock for cheaper than just the price of the Badger.
