Ok, who was this? Which one of you said you can shoot 710 yards with a 22 iron sights and hit a pop can?

while I have no idea whether that video is real or not I have seen other poeple hitting a 6'' target at 600 yards with little effort so I am sure someone out there could do it at 700 or further .

With a budget 22, with bulk ammo, with just irons?

The math of that probability makes the shot (repeated shot) pretty much impossible.

This video uses match ammo and he still couldnt consistently put a shot in the same area on target.

But he doubles down about being able to see a coke can at 710 yards after saying he’s wearing contacts. The cat sounded high as fuck. But, he got a free trip to shoot with GT, so maybe he’s smarter than the rest of us…

The following is 1mph wind difference @ 710y

So .85 mil for 1mph wind. The target is .1 wide so you would have to be within .1mph on wind.

Not bad for irons.

I thought the same exact thing. The he minute started slurring just to answer basic questions..I figured the drugs altered his memory to the point of not knowing the distance anymore than he knew where he actually was.

he needed a $10,000 custom built 22 to hit a target at 300. He wasnt hitting anything with irons at 700+ yards

I have no problem hitting a soda can with rimfire and open sights at 700 plus yards.
All day and all night, 365 days a year. Easy-peasy.

Might take a while to figure the hold-over, but I can get 'er done.

I feel like this guy got a much better deal:

Shooting with Garand Thumb would be fun, but nowhere near as useful as a day of 1 on 1 with Erik Cortina..

And this guy comes back in later videos too..

They all looked to be pretty cold, maybe the temperature had more of an effect on his speech, maybe he has a speech impediment...I'll give duder benefit of the doubt on that part. At the end of the video after shooter duder was out of the vehicle they all agreed that he was a pretty nice and humble guy. I wasn't there, so I won't pass judgement on his mental state.

Could the shot be done? I'd say the odds of a marble landing on your exact number in roulette twice in a row would be better.

Here is one: 300 yards, standing and unsupported. Shot a standard size egg with a 22.

Plus she's hot.

It took her quite a few attempts, but she was very close to the egg on most of her misses prior to pulling it off. Haven't seen any new videos from her in a while, hopefully she's still active in the trick shooting game...she is hot.

Garand Thumb should have HER on his channel instead of that other guy.

I'm certain that she still shoots. She did a few videos on why she was stepping away from social media a while ago. I definitely don't blame her for that at all. I turned off everything. I barely even watch TV anymore, especially 'news' channels.

I guess I missed her announcement(s). :(

It was more like a video on non gun topics. It wasn't a formal announcement or anything like that. She's definitely still around. Her last videos were 3ish months ago.

I worked a few years at a casino back when I was in college.

1/38 are the odds of one number on a double zero table. 1/37 for a single zero. I once saw the same number hit 3 times too. not saying that its extremely likely either, but Ive personally seen it happen. Casino games are games of chance after all.

1/1369 are the odds of a number hitting two times in a row on a roulette wheel on a single zero, or 1/1444 on a double.

I also watched a roulette table spin for 8-10 hours at a time. Sometimes longer.

Back to the main point, which is what he opened this challenge with:

I don't normally talk shit but, my cousins and I, used to shoot pop cans off a broken articulating tractor across the highway from our grandmothers. When we finally got ahold of a range finder the tractor was 710 yards from the porch where we shot from. Just a plain old 10/22, using Winchester super X, and iron sights. Hand to god. Man we wipe out sections full of prairie dogs with little shitty .22s. Maybe it's just how different people perceive this world, but we can go there now, and even though the tractor is gone we can re create anytime. Respectfully, don't get pissed. I'm just always a little surprised by stated ranges on videos (cause video doesn't re create how humans see distance or measure depth) and the shooting we grew up doing seems totally unbelievable when guys like you who have mad credentials act like you can't see a human size target at 400 meters! With an 8 power scope?
Come on dawg, anyway, love your shit.

After saying the above, being nice was the only option on the table. Who would openly accept a youtuber's challenge (probably thinking GT would never call his bluff), only to come there, FAIL at what he claimed to be able to do anytime, and then try to be a dick about it too? He would get laughed out of every single range he ever visited after. The video would have likely gone 100x more popular then too.

Well…
I finally had a chance to actually watch the video, it has been a busy day here in mom’s basement talking shit on gun forums, but I found the time. First off why are we all talking about shooting soda cans at 710 yards with a rimfire? I mean did anyone else notice the meat hooks on this guy!?! WTF is that all about?

Yes. Looked like he gnawed his fingernails down to the quick, then painted them. Maybe he’s a MLB catcher?

710, 170, 71 whatever it takes.

ETA:
The likely answer to this is they used a golfing rang finder which measures in feet. 710 feet = 236 yards, a tough but not impossible shot with crap ammo and irons.

I’m going with 71.0 yards. Even that is a long poke for a stock 10/22 and Walmart special bulk pack 22lr ammo.

Remember the guy said he needed 4-5 to walk it in, then could hit it at will…

My favorite by her was when she removed the sights from her gun and still hit! Muscle memory anyone?
Instinctive shooting is shooting when you get a hard focus. I never see the bead of a shotgun if I do I miss. Take a 22 to the range and remove the sights. put up a target at 25 yds standing without the gun in the shoulder mount the gun looking at the dot on the target. When you get a hard focus you fire. You should be able to move out to 50yds quick enough. I deer hunt by tracking and this helps tremendously.

Wasn't me. No self respecting southerner would call it a pop can. That'd be a coke can, regardless of the drink it contained.
If you can see it, you can hit it.

That guy was so full of shit. Go to the comments and read what some of the clowns are saying. He got closer so that's really darn good..etc.

Guy is nothing but an ass hat. Knew nothing about ballistics, and making wild claims that he could see the pop cans because he was wearing his contacts.. lol

Coke can is incorrect.
Unless y'er north of the Mason-Dixon line.

The correct terminology is sody-can. :p

A pop can, another midwesterner here? :D

Growing up in North Georgia and East Tennessee it's definitely Coke can. Everything is a coke. Go to a restaurant and order a drink you say I'll have a Coke then the waiter / waitress will ask you what kind (which could be anything up to and including Pepsi).

I know I said soda can earlier which is me somewhat concurring with Justin. But for the most part back home it's Coke.

Shit I can't wait to move back down there! Soon!!

Hitting a pop/soda can at 710 yards with my 6mm or 6.5cm is a fairly tough shot most days. With a 22LR iron sights the barrel would be pointed so far up it would be impossible to repeat the same angle.
So I say FUCKING BULLSHIT!!!I
I shoot ELR and when guy make claims of shooting 5k,6k and 7k I always ask how many rounds did it take and what was your dope. If you can't hit in 10 or less rounds now its just law of averages you put enough rounds down range and you have to get a hit.
My personal best with my 375ct is 2 of 5 at 3970 yard on a 50x40 target no wind to speak of when the shots were made.

This is doable. In my .22 matches I often have a stage between 190-210 yards shooting full coke cans. With good ammo and scopes, it’s repeatable once you get your windage correct. It’s one of the popular and fun stages that break up the monotony of standard steel stages.

i'd say the odds of this being budly are better than my odds on a roulette table...with half my money on red and half on black

I attended a match at fort benning and the AMU team was coaching/ giving classes. One of the troops on AMU got set up in a sitting position with an M16A2. After getting position set, they put covers on the sights so they could not be seen. Based on building that perfect position and natural point of aim, he put 5 rounds in the 10&X ring rapid fire. Back when I shot small bore in college, I could tell quickly when my position ( especially offhand or kneeling) wasn’t right and what the results would be when I didn’t adjust properly

Instructors have done that with optics as well. Get your NPOA. Then just flip the objective lense cover closed. And have you do like 3-5 breathing cycles....then fire.

Re: can’t see pop can at 710 yds and meat hooks

Go to https://hadzy.com/. It’s a nice YT comment search tool.

Paste the url of the relevant Garand Thumb vid in there. Search for stuff. I found out 22 Man probably has a medical problem that gave him screwed up hands.

And I also found out in there that some rare people, like Chuck Yeager, have eyes like eagles. Like 20/8 vision. So the rare person certainly could see a pop can out that far, at least if you believe some commenters.

I’m reminded of Myth Busters, when Adam Savage, mimicking some video game, tried to carry a bunch of weapons all at the same time, picking another one up in each new “room”.

He couldn’t do it. Myth was busted.

But then they got some spec ops guy in there and holy shit that dude pulled it off. Carried some absurd number of rifles and made it under the time limit.

My point is sometimes, not often, there are humans that just can do things that most others can’t conceive of. I wish I was one of those super-humans lol.

My point is to keep an open mind. Do some research. Maybe you’re right, maybe you’re wrong.

I’ve been wrong enough. Wrong when I’m dead certain. For example, a certain high school athlete I knew bet the whole track team that he could throw a rock way way way out there. Everyone bet against him.

And wow, he did it. An arm like a pro baseball outfielder. I’ve seen others do things that I still can’t believe, and they did it effortlessly.

Some people are just made of different stuff.
