Depression era, but downtown still vibrant, no places boarded up, no drug addicts or homeless sleeping on sidewalks

Don't see any morbidly obese people, or mounds of trash rolling through like tumbleweeds.
It was a different time for sure. This one happend just north of where I grew up. 31 inches of rain in about 6 hours, washed away whole families. My uncle told me of S&R and finding just arms sticking up out of the mud.
I always thought that if I had a time machine I'd go back to the late 1800's out west.
Then I changed to just after the end of WWII. Cars and trucks were better looking, and you could actually work on them yourself with simple tools. Lots of cool firearms. Music was getting better. People still had some morals.
I'd probably still be out west, too.
