When I say older scopes, I mean something like one of the SF fixed 10X SWFAs or even the old Weaver DMR 3-15/4-20 models. Do they still hold a candle to say a PST Gen 2 5-25 or the Bushnell LRTS/DMR’s?

    SWFAs are ~350
    Weavers are ~500-550
Vortex and Bushnell are north of $700

Just making sure it’s a wise(r) investment when the money saved can be spent on more ammo/a reloading setup since buying something like a Gen 2 Razor isn’t gonna make me the best shooter in the world

I’d love to get my hands on some old quality scopes.
I haven’t the money for the new stuff and you just can’t beat the quality of stuff made back in the day. While I write this I’m sitting in my 1971 mci greyhound bus with my old 8v71 running to pressurize the airbags so I can get it jacked up and leveled up to prepare for wintering over my family in it.
perhaps if more people stood proudly by their good old stuff and people we wouldn’t have this chinaflu issue or so many brainwashed idiots for youth.
I wish some of y’all old timers had the time and resources to pass on some of The hard lessons learned to any smart enough to listen.

Old scopes that work are just scopes that work. If the glass, reticle, and mechanicals meet your requirements, drive on.

Now is a Leupold VX-3 Tactical worth $700? If your being objective, no. There are a ton of new and used (but not 30 year old) scopes out there that will outperform a vintage VX-3.

    But we’re not always objective. 2020 Mustang GT (0-60: 4.2; 1/4 mi: 12.2) better than a 1967 GT (0-60: 7.3s, 1/4 mi: 15.2s) Yes. Will a 1967 sell for more? Yes.

If you’re after performance, you’ll buy something newer. If you’re looking for nostalgia or an investment, you’ll buy something older.

    A Weaver T is a great scope.

I have a T10 and it has great turrets, clear enough, seems to track well.

Company in Cali still services them.

They sure are. I dug my original Bushnell elite tactical (circa 2013) and used it on my 223 while waiting on my zcomp to come in. Other than not having a zero stop, it'll still hang with any other scope in it's price range then and now.

If you really want to annoy a Mustang fan ... just remind him or her that: when the chase scene for Bullitt was being set up, the tyre pressures on the Mopar had to be lowered because initially it was simply leaving the Ford in the dust! :)

I still have my SWFA 10x in the closet as a backup. Actually had it installed on a rifle last fall and it functioned perfectly.

If we start seeing PST Gen 2 quality optics at the $300 price point, it will be time to consider putting it out to pasture....on a .22lr truck gun.

I Gotta say I’m really digging this scope. Usable reticle (H25) without the funny business of the newer Horus reticles.
Easy to use reticle at low power.
Capped turrets and the dials actually track.
Made in Japan and the glass is decent.
