Hi All,
Thanks in advance for reading yet another "what scope should I buy" thread.

I have read hours of posts, across multiple sites, (SN is amazing BTW) and I have this to ask-

What Scope for my new short action 700?

me/my needs
I am a civi, mainly just enjoy action shooting. Spend alot of time at 0 to 50yrs, mostly AR with some open eye optic.

I have recently caught the longer range bug, so this is my jump in, I purchased a 700 SPS tactical AAC-SD .308 and am ready for some optic.

I am going budget here, so I will plan to stay around a grand, and less is always a plus.
I dig the Mil/Mil or mrad reticle, and understand it. Moving or multiple target will be my fun, and don't have access to much past 800/1000 yds.

I have narrowed things down to SWFA or Vortex, but looking for advice, should I consider something else? I like the idea of 16 to 20 on the magnify side, I do think I would like the ability to have a variable, like the pst 4x16x50 or the ss 6-20x50. I am not sure if there are others that should be in this, and that is what I am looking for. Help!! LOL

I think I gave you all the info, but if I missed something, please ask. and thanks in advance, the knowledge on this forum is amazing!

Re: One more time optic choice...

Sounds a lot like my story. I went with sightron 8x32x56 mil with mil adjustments and Iam really happy with it. Good glass and in the 800 dollar range.

Re: One more time optic choice...

Thanks Woody, I didn't mention, I was thinking FFP. is that Second or first focal plane? I read that holds are easier with FFP.

I will absolutely hold vs dial whenever I can.

Re: One more time optic choice...

Depending on what distances you will be shooting at, FFP or SFP may or may not be necessary. First Focal Plane(FFP) will allow you to range accurately at all distances with any level of magnification. Second Focal Plane(SFP) gets a little more complicated for ranging. I think that you are limited to 10x when ranging with SFP. If you want to range with a diff level of magnification, you have to divide the overall range by a certain number. Again it all depends if you want to shoot known or unknown distances. You are already making it easier on yourself by staying with mil/mil. I switched to mil/mil and it is much easier to make adjustments on the fly.
