So on Sunday I tooky new (used) norinco to the range for some test rounds.

It fired the first shot just fine. Then it stopped. I inspected the magazine and ejected the chambered round. The round had a clear, though light, impression from the firing pin. I reinserted the mag and tried again. Same thing- first round ok second round nada - just that ping from the firing pin.

Tried two more mags, all the mags I know work in my WASR. Same results with all mags.

I broke the rifle open and I think the recoil spring may be slightly worn, causing it to expand slightly at the bottom where it's catching, making the bolt catch.

Is there anything else you think it may be? I am looking for a site online to order the parts from but suprisingly it is hard to find the recoil spring. Either that or my google skills are failing me.

Suggestions on other potential causes would be great.

Tul ammo steel cased. Same ammo I've shot about a thousand times in my wasr. The ammo on Sunday was from the same spam can that I shot without a single ftf a couple weeks ago. Just different gun

Re: One-shot MAC-90

Now I'll have to dig out and test a certain MAK 90 to test it's functionability...

Wish I had a pat answer.

Were those mags Norinko also? I noticed a slight difference in certain mags (or drums) seating in a non-eastern bloc AK vs an eastern bloc. (Had to grind a notch on the ATI drum to make it universal.) One problem with AK's in general, with regards to components, the AK platform is just a pattern, some are mfg closer to the original design than others.

Yeah, the spring would be a first thought, something may be keeping the bolt from seating all the way. I know it's an AK, but is it clean and lubed? Compare the spring with your WASR, if they are identical but the Norinko is softer, try swapping springs and see if that solves the problem.

Troubleshooting an AK is sort of like going to the doctor with an unknown ache. They work to "rule out" known ailments in hope of finding a solution.

The ammo question was mainly just curiosity, but a stiff return spring will require a stouter ammo in certain gas systems. It's drawing the bolt carrier back enough to chamber a round, which should be enough slap to seat the bolt. But you may wish to try a box of Yugo surplus, it's much hotter than Tula, but a bit corrosive. (take windex to clean the barrel)
