Not sure if this belongs in the bolt gun forum or semi auto forum, so I’ll drop it here in the equipment forum.

I have a scar 17 which takes the FN mags. I have a remmy 5R which takes the AICS mags.

I have been thinking of buying an aftermarket lower for the scar to take the SR25 mags and getting a ruger precision rifle that takes the SR25 mags as well. I’d have one mag for 2 different platforms. It seems to make sense, but is it worth it? Am I looking for a solution to a nonexistent problem? Instead of worrying about grabbing the correct mags for the correct guns, I can just grab any old mag.

The cost difference is pretty much a wash between stocking up on the cheaper magpul mags and cost of the scar lower vs stocking up on FN mags.

I wouldn't ditch a remmy that's a shooter because it took aics mags. My RPR is a shooter, and the wide mag compatibility is cool, but I would not trade into it just for the mags. My range bag contains one mag for each rifle, just in case I forget to pack mags.
